Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

I just read through this thread, holding my breath, hoping for the best. I'm so glad she's well again! She is lucky to have such a wonderful, devoted family.

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

My dog has Parvo too. She is 7 months old and has been hospitalized for two days now. My boyfriend and I are students and are going through so much right now as the vet bill is crazy. I know what I is like to have your dog in intensive care for Parvo. I wish you all the best with your dog and she will be in my prayers along with my little one.

Was she really sick when you took her in? Our final vet bill was $3100....set a limit for yourselves....my mom told me that when took Sassy in. Good luck with your little one!!! She will be on my mind! Keep us posted!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

I just wanted to post a quick update and FYI for everyone! We are getting reimbursed from Ft Dodge for ALL of Sassys parvo bills! It was like pulling teeth getting all the info we needed from the breeder and all but we finally did and they are going to send a check in the next 2 wks. Sassys total bill was a little over $3100. They are covering it ALL! Thanks to everyone for your support and to the person who passed along the reimbursement info! Please let others know as well.....that if your puppy was vaccinated correctly that MOST of the time they will reimbursement (you have to be able to show proof of vacs). Thanks again!!!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

Somehow this thread got past me until today!!! I'm so glad your sweet Sassy recovered and I'm equally as glad the manufacturer is reimbursing you!!! That is awesome!!! I'm sure it was a tough road, but I know Sassy was worth it! Has she gotten her house manners back yet?

House manners are getting better day by day. She will occasionally climb up where the sink is and have a lick or two off dirty dishes (havent caught her doing this for over 2 wks now). She is very calm again with the kids. Shes a great dog! LOL

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

I am so excited that Sassy is doing well!
We lost our puppy to parvo back in August and it was just awful.
The manufacturer paid our vet bill and we never paid a dime for his treatment (w/ plasma also.) Cherish every second that you have with Sassy....we miss our Bruce boy so much everyday!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

I just found this thread today, I am so glad that everything worked out good for you and Sassy. It is great that the manufacturer covered all of the vet bill, what a relief. I know that when I took both my pups to get their shots, he had us come in for an extra parvo shot for both dogs because he said that Rottweilers have a harder time recovering from parvo. I did have a puppy about 16 years ago that had parvo and it was horrible. Good luck, with getting Sassy back on track with her manners, it shouldn't take too long.

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

My prayers goes out to you and sassy, I've gone through this with lady brother Roaddog and I have never seen a dog suffer so bad, I cried everyday at the vets. I can still see those weak eyes looking up at me. It's a bad sickness for them to have, just writing this have brought tears to my eyes. I will be praying for sassy.

SO happy to read your girl is OK, you know my breeder told us right from the beginning to stick w/ Intervet and stay away from that FT.Dodge stuff. But who would know, I was just relying in her advice, as she also had pups on those shots come down w/ Parvo. Just glad you guys came through it ok, And I hope they send you some $$. Best of luck.

They did end up reimbursing us 100%! We got the check 2 days before we went on vacation! :) Sassy is doing great! Thanks for your reply!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

I'm so sorry to hear about Sassy having Parvo. We just lost our 12 week old Rottie (Achilles) today from Parvo. My husband, the kids, and I are heartbroken. I had NO idea that Rotties were so suseptible to Parvo. Achilles got sick on Monday (lethargic, not eating) I called my Vet and he told me not to worry, that perhaps it was a little stomach bug! OMG. Tuesday Achilles started vomiting and having diarrhea. We took him to our Animal Hospital (not our regular Vet since he wasn't alarmed by the symptoms) and they test Achilles for Parvo...needless to say it popped up positive right away. Today is Friday. It took Parvo 5 days to take our baby. I will keep your girl in my prayers. God bless.

Everyone look into a product called Parvaid. It is a natural remedy and it has a very high success rate against Parvo!

Oh NO! I am soooo sorry for your loss!! Sassy is healthy now. She was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks and it was over $3000 to keep her on life support (IVs, pain meds, electrolytes, antibioitics to prevent secondary infection, etc) and it ripped my heart out every day when I went to see her. I cried to the vet daily almost, begging her to tell me if it was "time". She always said, "I will tell you when, if it was my dog, I would let her go," and she NEVER had that talk with me. I am soooo sorry you had to go through this! I know how heart wrenching it can be!
