Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

Ok....I took Sas her buffet of chicken and rice and she showed a little interest but didnt eat anything :( She sniffed and licked on the chicken a little so I slid a piece in her mouth and she spit it out. Then I stuck my finger in some chicken baby food and rubbed that around in her mouth and she showed no interested in that either! The vet said she may not be quite ready yet.....or maybe she had stage fright since there was 6 of us standing over her waiting for her to devour it! LOL Anyways, they will leave some in her cage with her overnight and see if she decides to eat it! He said once her appetite picks up a little and he is sure she will eat then she can come home! So lets all pray that she gets a rumbly in her tumbly tonight!! Still no diarrhea and no vomiting today!

I have "discovered" instant baby rice cereal. I like the kind with banana. You just add liquid. You can make it as thin or as thick as you want. You can use broth or pedylite or whatever. The best part is that you can make as much as you want in seconds vs waiting for the rice to cook and then having to do the cleanup. It has vit and minerals added too.

I may try the rice cereal tomorrow if we do not get anywhere with the chicken! I am hoping that she will eat it after everyone is gone!

The baby rice cereal is a good idea, you can mix a bit of baby food chicken in it....just give it a swirl through the cereal, don't mix it in thoroughly (kind of like the peanut butter and jelly stuff at the store).

When they have completely lost their appetite, it may take a bit before a dog is interested in eating - they get anorexic. If she's showing a little interest, scoop up some on your finger, then tease her a little by swooshing it by her nose swooshing it away without trying to get it in her mouth. Play with it a bit. "Do you want it? Mmmmmm, smells good!" (sniff it) Then wipe it off your finger into her lip pocket and see if she'll develop a taste for it that way. Just a little bit at a time to start. Better to give her less than more starting out. Once she gets her desire to eat back, she'll be really interested!

Re: Our Sweet Sassy Has Parvo!?!?

Well....they told me they want to send her home tonight and see if that snaps her out of the depression....the diarrhea and vomiting has been gone for at least 48 hours and they think that she is not eating partially because she is depressed she is still there! They are keeping her IV in and I have to take her back tomorrow for a reassessment but she is mine at 5 pm! I went in around noon to try and hand feed her and she still wasnt interested.....I took a syringe and squirted some of the gooey food they are trying to give her in the back of her mouth and she swallowed that but didnt offer to eat any herself before that.....thats why we tried the syringe....she quickly got tired of me doing that though because I got the growl again....several times! Oh well, wish us luck tonight!!

LOL thanks! The vet said "dont let her bite you" when he heard her growling at me earlier...I said "I wont she doesnt have enough energy to fight me yet" and I know she really doesnt want to bite me....just tired of being messed with!
