Rocky has very dark golden brown urine today?

Hello again, update on Rocky. He was neutered on 3/4 and slept the night. Looked okay on the next day, drnk and ate a few. The next two days ate and drank more, had usual energy and went for some short walks. Today, 3/8 took him for a quick walk in the rain and noticed his urine was very dark golden brown so to speak. I called the vet who did the procedure and she recommended more water, chicken broth, gatorade get him drinking. If not better, bring a urine sample in on monday. His primary doctor, had her tech call me back. I hate that when a doctor who you have been with for 15 years can't even get on the phone. The vet who did the low cost neuter called me right back and we talked about his chronic prostatitis, antibiotics, etc. Any one expierence dark urine after spay/neuter?

Sounds like he may be dehyrated. He probably has not drank enough since the neuter. Get him to drink more and see how his urine looks. Put some water in his kibble, and give him some canned food (canned contains a lot of water).
Did they do pre-op bloodwork up on him before the surgery?

Gina

Yes, pre-op blood work was done. I just spoke to the vet and she confirmed all labs were normal. I will push the fluids this weekend and give some canned food. Hope all goes well. Thanks again brunie's mom.

Like Gina said give him canned food (80% water) and water in his kibble.

Re: Rocky has very dark golden brown urine today?

Okay. I have been pushing him to drink, saying drink some water Rocky everytime he is near one of his bowls. I also took the advice about more canned food. I am somewhat worried, but he is acting normal, eating anything I put in front of him, dry, canned and some beef or chicken. I am just thinking that maybe something else may be happening, liver or kidney problems or he has been on antibiotics long term over six weeks? If I see no improvement I only have an emergency clinic on sunday or what till monday for the doctor visit or urine sample to who did the neuter.

Flavoring the water with low sodium chicken or beef broth will encourage a dog to drink more water.

Hudson too just got neutered on 3/7 and we haven't noticed anything unusual with his urine. Like the others have suggested, push the fluids and see how that works.

Re: Rocky has very dark golden brown urine today?

Today, his urine looked dark yellow, not rusty brown. Overall, Rocky appears okay, goes out for two walks a day, eating very well, hopefully we are looking good. I have been pushing the water, extra canned food with his kibble and this morning added some beef, great meal, he chowed down and looks very content.

Tryed low sodium chicken broth but he will not accept that? Tomorrow I will call the vet who did the neuter and tell her he is making improvements and if she thinks a urine sample is still needed I will bring one.

I still think about that rimadyl injection and problems it can give. Sometimes you put one and one together and start thinking neuter went fine, but NSAIDS and now nasty looking urine. Will check him again today when we walk and pee later.

Please don't capitalize every word. Makes posts hard to read, and it's more work for you, anyway!

Hope Rocky continues to improve.

Re: Rocky has very dark golden brown urine today?

Thanks! He looks good today. Eats anything I put in front of him wet and dry foods, beef and chicken. Back to two walks a day now. His urine looks normal in the am and the pm. So, if he was somewhat low on fluids after the neuter, he has now hydrated himself I hope enough. I spoke to vet and she liked what I told her. Keep him on his antibiotics two more weeks hopefully his prostae will begin to shrink and the inflammation reside.
