Many thanks Jlaack. Neither of these products appears to be available here.

Can you purchase them online? The Hoxsey is also a cousin of the Essiac Formula; something else to search for. It can also be made in a weaker version as a tea, called Camas Tea; just another possibility. For the tea, it is combined with boiling water and needs to steep for several hours then strained. Just another possibility of something you could find in AU. I think I have a recipe too made from scratch with herbs that you might be able to find in Australia. I'll try to dig for it...

As far as the Immugen, I don't have a clue about any subsitutes. I researched the product when our vet recommended it and it is a very researched product with results better than other products on the market (some of which aren't researched at all for effectiveness).

Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

Jlaack- Can you tell me what the ingrediants are in the Immungen? I found similar product with that name on the web, but I am not sure what the ingrediants are in the Immungen you give your dog. Also, I found the Hoxsey online at www.Bontanicaldog.com I started Lucas on Piroxicam today. It makes him sleepy.

Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

Just wondering if you checked out the post on yahoo by Angie. (link in previous post) She has several supplements she bought for her Rottie and her Rottie lost his battle with cancer. She is offering them for (just shipping) to help another Rottie.

Thinking of you and Lucas and sending well wishes.

No, I didn't see that post. Where is it? I would be willing to see if she has any supplements that could help my Lucas.

I put the link in my post to you on 3-8 (page two of your thread)...here it is again Yahoo! Groups. The post offering the supplements is in yahoo groups...cancerinrottweilers. Let me know if the link doesn't work for you I'll figure some other way.

Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

I am so sorry to hear about your boy. My boy Drake has it in his right leg. Like you said it came on fast. he is on tramadol and a steriod for the swelling. The thing I did wrong yesterday and today is give him his pills right after he ate. That only made him throw it all up. I should know better. Drake has always has a sensative stomach anyway. It's been I believe it's been three weeks since we got the news about Drake and I am like so many of you just enjoying him and loving on him even more. Now I just need to use my head and wait at least a half hour before I give him the meds. I have to put it in the soft part of bread as he hates things going down his throat. I can't even mix it in his food he's to smart. I got some supplements from 4life and they are to help with his immune system. You and your buddy have all our prayers.

Have you discussed this with your vet? Tramadol and most other pain relievers should be given on a full stomach. I think you should discuss it with your vet. We have administered morphine, tramadol, metacam, tylenol with coedine to our dog prescribed by the vet. The instructions for all are to give with food (ie a full stomach). Since your dog has cancer, I would be concerned that the vomiting is being caused by the disease and not the drug...

Unfortunately I can't import any plant matter into Aus. Customs are very strict so I'm restricted to whatever I can find here in Aus.

Thanks jlaack for your help.

Same here. All medications bar one (Fosamax) have to be given with a full meal. I give tablets in a small ball of minced beef when I have her meal ready for her to eat.

The Fosamax is a bone building/strengthening drug and must be given on an empty stomach. I set the alarm for 5am and she gets the tablet then. We go back to bed and she has the rest of her morning medication with her breakfast 3 hours later.

She has Tramadol with her dinner at 6pm and again at bedtime, about 1am and I give her this with goats milk and organic yoghurt.

I am not sure if it's because I give it to him as soon as he is done eating or if it is the cancer it's self just taking another turn. I am hoping he will eat in the morning and keep it down all day. I never give any pills to him on an empty stomach. I just hope I have a little more time with him. He is very alert and drinking even barking at sounds he hears with our windows open. It's hard to make a decission to leyt them go when they still have so much life, But, if he can't keep food down I will know it is the cancer and I wont let him suffer. I had my partner take a lot of pictures of Drake and me tonight. I like so many of us have been crying a lot and we have been going through so much other stuff like others that it is like living in a fog

Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

Another thought...I know our Vet suggested we add pumpkin (PLAIN canned pumpkin not the pie stuff) to our boy's diet as the pain killers can upset their tummy & constipate. He loved the pumpkin added to his food and wolfed it down.

Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

Dear mykids-
You mention that your dog is on prednisone for swelling. My dog's leg is getting bigger every day and I don't know if it is the tumor growing rapidly or if it is fluid accumulation. Has the prednisone helped to decrease the size of the tumor? What is the dosage? I will pray for you and your dog, Drake.

Re: HELP - My best friend has osteosarcoma

How fast does this cancer grow? My God, Lucas' tumor is growing like crazy!! The thing has doubled in size in just one week. Is this fluid or is it really the tumor growing? I was thinking of starting him on prednisone to stop the swelling, but if it is indeed the tumor growing, then prednisone won't help. He is taking piroxicam for inflammation and tramadol for pain. Has anyone else used prednisone to help slow the growth of the tumor? I started him on his high protein, low carb diet...I cooked all morning yesterday. He is worth it.
