Systematic Yeast Infection??

I have a 4 yr. old lab, she, for a while now, has been having continous ear infection problems, itching, chewing her feet, dragging her bottom. A lady that had a G.Dane with the same problems said to look at this Great Dane Lady website. She said that this might not be an allergie problem but a Systematic YEAST problem and that this site had good info on how to treat it. Which treating it is getting a Yeast Removal Kit from Nymes. The symtoms are right on.
So I was wondering if anyone has tried this or heard of this before. Thanks!

Well I don't see how these things could hurt your dog. I see the great dane lady suggests having a thyroid test done....not a bad idea.

Have you already tried a food change? what are you feeding now? If you haven't maybe you should try a food change first?

What are you feeding?

Chronic ear infections can be an indication the dog is allergic to something in his or her diet.

Re: Systematic Yeast Infection??

I have a rescue that, for various medical reasons (including needing antibiotic treatment for lyme), ended up on multiple courses of antibiotics, pred, antihistamines, etc. After almost four months of constantly being on one course or another of medication, Rocky started chewing on his paws and would even refuse to go out on wet surfaces... we finally found out he had inflamation between the pads of his feet. His coat became very coarse and started falling out, he got yeasty ears. He developed a UTI. The vet suspected food allergies. She also kept putting him back on meds for these "issues"...I argued that I thought the meds might be WHY he was developing all these symptoms as from researching, I too suspected a yeast overgrowth. I ordered Dogzymes probiotics off the net and started adding that to his food and the change was dramatic. I also started doing maintenace ear washes (using Blue Powder Ear Treatment) which I've decreased to once a week and his ears have had no further problems with his ears. To clear up the inflamation on feet I started wiping them once to twice daily with betadyne and have also decreased the frequency of that to once every several days. His coat is now soft with no shedding. He's just a much happier, healthier dog.
BTW, I did do a thyroid panel as the symptoms for that can be similar and his values were normal. I would also make sure your lab is on a quality food, probably something novel to the dog in case food allergies might be contributing. I was alternately feeding Eagle Pack duck and sardine.
Rocky is doing great now. I did not use the yeast removal kit although I considered it. Simply adding the probiotics worked for Rocky. Best wishes your lab starts feeling better.

Re: Systematic Yeast Infection??

I have taken her to the Vet., he susptected food allergies. I have fed her only premuim dog foods from Innova, California Natural, to Premium Edge & ect. Tried everything from no grains, to chichen, beef, turkey, salmon & potato. I have been battling this for 1.5 to 2 yrs. now and the vet has given me a steriod(spray) for her bottom & I have been giving her benadryl but the spray does not work & the benadryl helps the itching but makes her tired and drowsy all day.
I now have her on Premium Edge Chichen Healthy weight(she is a little over weight) till I get her weight back to normal. But since cutting her back on benadryl, the itching and dragging her bottom is constant. But I do notice she has way more energy.(Which is why I cut her back) Her coat is nice but she has sores in between her toes from chewing & a few around her lips from scratching herself so hard. I clean her ears every week, they look fine but have a little smell to them all the time. But if I don't clean them every week .....infection shows up shortly after. If anyone has any insite on this PLEASE me know! Thanks!

Have you thought about putting her on a raw diet? You have certainly fed her fine foods, but clearly, they don't agree with her.
