| preparing to get rottie neutered!! my 6mth old rottie has finally reached the age to be neutered, i will be taking him to the vets next week. i am also going to get his hind dew claws removed at the same time. i just have a few questions for anyone that has had their rottie done, i was wondering will my rottie be in much discomfort afterwards and how long approximately will he take to recover?? also does anyone have any helpful ideas or tips for making it easier and more comfortable for my rottie once he's home from vets after the two procedures?? |

| Re: preparing to get rottie neutered!! Nisha got spayed at 6 months; I think the spay is harder on dogs than a neuter. My dog slept the rest of the night, and was back to her old self again! It was SOOOO hard to keep her still! We majorly stocked up on bones to give her something to do! A very short, slow paced walk calmed her down somewhat. Make sure your boy doesn't mess with his stitches; make sure his wound stays healthy looking (no pus, inflammation, ect.). If he does mess with his wounds get an E collar (cone). Don't worry, he will be acting his crazy self very shortly ![]()

| Re: preparing to get rottie neutered!! when Kaylee was spayed, they gave me pain meds for her. but, she seemed to be fine. She did sleep a good bit the first day or two, but then was back to her old self. I know my vet said make her take it slow, but how do you slow down a 9 month old?? Good luck, all will be fine. |

| Re: preparing to get rottie neutered!! Quote:
Our current foster (5 yo +/-) was neutered this past summer. (My vet permits owners to be in operations, if they wish, so I stayed.) Soon after Sailor came to, I walked him, staggering outside, where he took a pee, then staggered to the car. I helped him into the back seat where he slept all the way home. When we got home I woke him up and asked him if he wanted to get out of the car. He didn't, so I put the car in the garage and left him there to sleep it off. I checked on him from time to time and after a couple of hours he was awake enough to get out of the car. We took a walk around the yard where he marked, then we went into the house. He went into his crate and back to sleep. I can't remember if he ate dinner, but I do remember he was as right as rain the next morning and ate breakfast as he always did. His scrotum swelled up but that eventually subsided. I walked him on a leash to control his running around. For the first few days he didn't lick his incision, but as it started to heal, he did, so on went the E collar. Sailor sailed thru his surgery and recovered nicely. I pulled out the stitches. |

| Re: preparing to get rottie neutered!! Same here. My boy who is seven goes in next week. I am mad at myself for waiting this long, but us humans make many mistakes. He has had some prostatitis issues and now it is time. My female was spayed at age six and her recovery was very quick. Most have told me that neutering is a quicker and easier recovery then spaying. Good luck with yours.
