Need Help... No vet in town.

Hi.
Need help w/ my 1yr old rott. It started two days ago, she has not touch her food ( Canidae ALS) and she seemed weak and sluggish. Today, I notice that her nose was dripping small amount of fluid more of waterish type. I gave her rice w/ chicken which she did eat for dinner. She is still slughish and when I pet her head, she was shiverring a little. All day my wife observe her and she would just lay down not her normal attitude of out going. My vet is off island for another two weeks and the local vet is also out of town. I clueless on what to give her and since we live in an island, we are very limited w/ supplies.

Re: Need Help... No vet in town.

did you take her temperature?
shivering can mean a fever or a sudden low temp.
how is she on her vaccines? did she have distemper/parvo vaccines done?
any coughing? sneezing? vomitting or diarrhea?
has she been around other dogs recently?
there is absolutely no vet open today or tomorrow?

Re: Need Help... No vet in town.

Today was a bit better. I had given her pedialyte together w/ her lunch and this afternoon, she was coming around. No signs of shiverings. As far as vomitting or diarrhea, my wife said that she had not gone to poop since yesterday. I'm worried that she might had eatin sometime that got stuck on her system. Her last distemper/parvo vaccines was when she I got her as a puppy. Does she need to get her shots after turning one year? And she has not been around any other dogs too.

Re: Need Help... No vet in town.

you are doing good in keeping her hydrated.
if she has not eaten, she won't have any poop...but do you suspect she ate something? toy missing parts or she has gone thru trash?
even if she looks like she is coming around, have the vet give her a physical. check for parasites and if she has not had any vaccs boosters since just a pup, you might want to update them or run a titer on distemper and parvo(of course, only vaccinate once 100%).
she still has any nose discharge?
tick problem?
keep us updated.

Re: Need Help... No vet in town.

She has finally poop. No signs of blood so far and no diarrhea either. Until now, she is strictly on rice w/ chicken. As for the vet, she will not get a check up either till end of month. That is when the vet comes in. Does she need her booster after a year or yearly? She does have a little tick issue though so I had given her frontline plus for the past 4 days. Thank for the reply. Keep you posted on her vet checkup.

Re: Need Help... No vet in town.

with ticks, i would do a tick panel test to make sure she has not picked up any tick diseases. they can make her quite sick and painful.

vaccs should be given between once a year to every 3 years, depending on lifestyle. or you can choose to run titers. talk to your vet about them.

glad she is holding up.

When you said "I had given her frontline plus for the past 4 days" , what do you mean?

Unless there are different Frontline plus products on the market that I don't know about, Frontline plus is applied once a month.
