My one year old rottweiler is going grey

About a month ago i noticed a few grey hairs on the side of my dogs leg , it is now about a two inch patch. I`m worried it will keep growing , does anybody know why this would be happening?

Re: My one year old rottweiler is going grey

there is a condition called vitilagio. this is a possiblity. you can search it in this site.

they can also get white hairs where they could have had some trauma.

Re: My one year old rottweiler is going grey

My little girl was very sick and had a bunch of iv's and such in her leg when she was 3 months old, she now has a big spot with no hair and white hair all around it. My vet said it is from the trauma to the area and that scar tissue formed.
Maybe your pup hurt himself?

Re: My one year old rottweiler is going grey

My 2 yr old boy has vitiligo...It doesn't bother him (thanks to the members who helped me with the name--I knew what it was but forgot what it was called)..It doesn't bother him..He's perfectly normal, grey head, pink nose and greying shoulders...I was told that in the warmer weather his nose should go back to normal again..Also, I find that using vitamin E tablets in his food seems to stop the greying a bit. Good luck and enjoy your unique looking Rottie

Re: My one year old rottweiler is going grey

My boy had just turned 2 last month and went grey on his head and shoulders pretty much overnight..His is definitely vitiligo...Just to be safe, take yours to the vet and confirm...My boy's nose also turned light brown..Have started on Vitamin E tabs to try to turn back....Vet said when the temperatures warm up again, some of his color might come back..Good luck and enjoy your new colored Rott.

Re: My one year old rottweiler is going grey

Just like everyone no the thread here my dog is going grey as well. I originally got my pup when she was 3 months old and she had a couple of stray strands of white/grey hair on her back. I didnt think much of it and the vet said it wasnt anything to worry about. Now @ 11 months she has developed more white hairs on the bottom of her stomach area, but none on her back (she still has those few stray strands of hair). I have also noticed when brushing her around her shoulder area that all of the hair underneath her top layer is greyish. My vet has already checked it out and confirmed that its not vitiligo. She just said that its hereditary/genetic. Is this something to worry about? Or any explanations?? She has no discoloration on her nose or face..

She is waaaayyyyy tooo young to turn grey.
