Breathing problems and itching problems

Jake is three and a half years old and he has been having itching problems for several years now. We got recommended a chiropractor for him and that did wonders, his neck and pelvis were out and the itching stopped after seeing the chiro. But it seems we are taking him an awful lot and now his itching has escalated. Am wondering if we will need to have his hips and neck xrayed?

Also he has this breathing thing going on, it is like he has asthma or something. Occasionally he will gasp for breath several times and then go to sleep and then I find it difficult to wake him, it is like he is in a coma.

Any suggestions?

Post Re: Breathing problems and itching problems

Most often itching is caused by diet or some sort of contact allergies.
The easiest thing to try to a change in diet. What food are you feeding?
Where does your dog spend most of it's time during the day? at night?

As far as the breathing...are you sure it's not reverse sneezing? Is your dog overweight?

Re: Breathing problems and itching problems

He eats chicken wings, brisket bones, left overs and a small amount of dry dog food. We also give him glucosomine powder with a raw egg a couple of days a week.

Jake spends most of his days outside in the yard with our two other rottweiler girls. I have noticed that when he is inside he does not scratch so much. I think it could be the dirt as we have had a drought and no grass.

No jake is not overweight, but the reverse sneezing does sound a lot like what he has got. It seems to have escalated lately but now that I know what it is I can try and help him alleviate the problem when I am home.

Thanks for the info it was most helpful
