eye problem

Zoey (1 year old) woke up yesterday morning and was squinting her left eye. i took a look around and it was red and kinda glazed in the corner. I thought maybe she got something in her eye or hit herself while playing with her toys. it seemed to look better last night so i wasn't concerned. Well again this morning we woke up and the same thing. Eye all red and glazed in the inside corner with her squinting. i called my vet, and tried to get her in. they were only open till noon and i got stuck in massive traffic so they closed way before i could get there. we are home now and i don't know what this could be. Should i wait till monday or should i go to the emergency vet? what could possibly do this?

Re: eye problem

My girl Zumi has had conjunctivitus (sp?) before. That is basically pink eye for dogs and is treated with an eye ointment usually. I don't think it is anything serious, but definately annoying to the dog and sad for you to see! Don't worry about going to the emergency vet unless anything seriously unusual comes up, like lethargy, diarrhea, not eating, etc. If she is perky and fine, she will survive until monday.

Re: eye problem

You do need to get the dog to a vet. There could be some foreign body in her eye.
I wouldn't diagnose it as a simple case of conjunctivitis over the internet because none of us can see the dog.

Re: eye problem

Thanks for the replies. Zoey is doing much better today. I did try to get her to the vet yesterday, but like i said was not successful. Seeing that there is no swelling, the eye is barely red, and the "glaze" is just about gone i will wait till morning to bring her to the vet. I agree that she needs to see him just to be sure, but don't think it is an emergency. My first thought was also a foreign body, but i don't seem to see anything. we will find out in the a.m.
