what do you make of this?

i client of mine came over today ( i edit books) - she is a "distance healer" and does all sort of hocus pocus to allegedly heal all manner of beings.

so she comes in with all these herbal remedies and pills and does a consult with izzy.

a few minutes ago, she emailed and said this: ( i need to preface by saying that izzy is bathed way too often for my liking - maybe once a week - noone thinks he smells)

"I don't want to alarm you but I did not like what I saw and smelled (I went home immed took a bath, the smell still lingers). I'm virtually certain, he hasn't healed from his surgery. It is very important to help him; I don't want him to die--yup, it might be that serious. You want to keep his environment as clean as possible. I would definitely avoid the lake. Treat him the way you would for anyone with a bacterial infection--means avoid all possible contaminants.

From your postings about Izzy, I don't think that, in your heart, what she said comes as a surprise.

Re: what do you make of this?

I still think you should try the Nutribiotic plus capsules. They won't hurt and they might help

How could it not be OK?? Our dogs don't ask to come into our lives or to be made part of our lives. They give us everything, unselfishly and generously, in full measure. It's our responsibility to care for them to the best of our ability, to ensure their quality of life.

Re: what do you make of this?

Mel I looked up infections in that book I bought, DUH I just put two and two together about why you wanted to know the name in someone else's post.
He recommens liquid kyolic aged garlic, echinacea, and goldenseal root both in a liquid form.
I wish they would give doses here, but it doesn't. If you DO go to a health food store I am sure they could help you. He said one lady put this in beef broth for the dog to lap up.
As far as your original question, I do NOT believe in psychics, or healers or mediums etc.
I believe they are mostly after money, and if your dog looks ill, she probably said that just to prepare you for the possibility. Believe me, I have been desperate enough to almost contact a medium once, so I do understand. I talked myself out of it, and I still fight the urge sometimes.
As far as nursing your dog, of course, I would do everything in my power to make him comfortable, and I would KEEP FIGHTING, as long as your Izzy is willing to. At this point you probably have nothing to lose.
Have you gotten an opinion from another vet? Tried different antibiotics? Some bacteria have grown resistant to drugs so you have to keep trying different ones.
I will be thinking of you and Izzy alot.
If the worst does happen and all hope for a recovery is lost, Izzy will let you know when his life is no longer worth staying for. I will be praying that it does not come to that point.
Sending you and Izzy big encouraging cyber hugs!!!

Sharon

Re: what do you make of this?

You know I have to laugh about your boy's name Izzy. Years ago we picked up a stray, kind of a snarled up version of Bengie. Anyway I asked my Dad what should we name him and he said "I don't know...he looks kinda Icky to me"....so that was his name Icky!

On a more serious note...
Don't torture yourself trying to second guess yourself....you are the Mom and you ARE doing the right thing nursing your boy....the best you can. He might just miraculously get better!! Or... he will let you know when his time here is done...and I send strength to you should that day come. You and Izzy are in my prayers and I send paw hugs your way.

Re: what do you make of this?

thank you all so much - i am touched by your kind words.

the "healer", whose services came unsolicited, turned up on my doorstep again today with yet MORE herbs and potions and vitamins and probiotics and immune support pills. i think i counted 15 different bottles, including one full of exotic mushroom powder which i am most certain it not good for a dog.

i do appreciate her concern, but she has taken the health of my dog on as some kind of personal mission, one that i did not ask for.

my order of nutribiotics has just arrived, so izzy will get, and only that, tonight.

Re: what do you make of this?

Our holistic vet always says that when you add something new to a dog's treatment plan to NOT add anything else for 5-7 days so that you can access the dog's reaction to the new item (diarrhea, stomach irritation etc,...)

Just thought I'd throw that out

Re: what do you make of this?

exactly - if i feed him a smorgasbord or new substances and he reacts - be it positively or negatively- i would have no way of knowing what caused it.
