When it rains it pours

Hello guys, well you all know by now the issues I have been having with harley, right. Well for the past 6 days he has been vomiting vile and white foam. He missed one day in between, and knock on wood, so far he has not today. Well the probiotics are no longer working, and he is losing weight again. I called my vet to see when I can get an appointment. I have taken intuitive, and tried a new food again. This one is called oven baked, it is made here in Quebec. Knock on wood this will help the poor guy.
I do not know what is causing the vomiting, but normally he does this when his body can not digest anymore. His stool is still fine. But going 3 times a day instead of 2.
By the way this was happening before the cobb incident. That just did not help any.
Keep my baby in your prayers, I do not know how much more financially I can do without Kayla suffering :(

Post Re: When it rains it pours

Sorry to hear about Harley.
What foods has he been on? Have you tried Orijen yet? There is no grains...and it's 70% meat, and 30 % veggies and fruit.

I would probably get a blood work up done and an x-ray. Is it possible that he swallowed something? I know that you have spent a fortune on him with all of his medical needs.... Has EPI(exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) ever been discussed?

I am curious to know what his breeder has said about all of these health problems? Has she ever aknowledged any of them?

Gina

Re: When it rains it pours

She does not give a crap, that is a long story in its self. EPI has never been discussed, blood test did not show anything. We just got back from the vet, she wanted to give him sulkrate to coat his asphogas.
By the way, in May he was 105 lbs, as of today, he is 93 lbs.
He still has loads of energy, but with this dramatic weightloss, it really has me worried.
He has been on natures variety, innova, wolfking, and he is now on natural balance.
No treats, nada, nothing, I just switched him onto ovenbaked. Amazing ingredients, doing a switch over very mildly.
The next step is an episeotomy. If that is the correct spelling for the test to remove tissue from his stomache.
The possible c word maybe the next

After this long with a chronic problem such at this, I'd stop spending money at the regular vet's office and go to a veterinary internist and have an ultrasound done. Dollars to donuts, it would a better use of your hard earned cash than trying to hit a target with a blindfold on. Until you get to the bottom of it, you are not going to know how to help him. Get a specialist involved.

Re: When it rains it pours

Have you tried tagamet? This is an over the counter stomach acid reducer. Both my girls needed this to control vomiting. The vets often recommend prilosec and others but Tagamet seemed to really help my dogs. They come in 200 mil tablets. I give one am, one pm. Just dip pill in peanut butter and they go right down. When my first girl began to drop weight, I offered jars of baby food. They have aprox 75 cal per jar. I used chicken, beef and lamb. These were in broth not gravy. It was easy to increase calories with out her over eating and giving it all back. I found that increasing other foods just made her puke even more. Hope your boy feels better soon.

I couldn't agree more! I have so been there...

I am so sorry you are going through this. Good thoughts and prayers heading your way.

I definitely agree with this. You're clearly not getting anywhere with what you're doing now (although I also agree that you should try a grain-free food, there are many available right now, including one made by Go! Natural).

Re: When it rains it pours

Could this be a ulscer? I know the vomit would be more on the brown side but the vile and foam is something in his dijestive system off. Did you try Tagament or cimasolmdine(spelling wrong), before meals? I know it will coat his stomach some. He doesn't need ot loose anymore weight. Hope you get it under control for your boy. Good Luck, D. Ervin
