In first heat and now our male dog is marking?

Some of you have seen my other post that I just posted this morning about our 9 month old being in her first heat and peeing "differently" Now I have another question. Our 6 year old neutered English Bulldog has peed in the house TWICE in the past 2 days and he has not done this for YEARS. Is Sasha's being in heat making him mark his territory for some reason??? One of the things he "marked" was this box that we keep their dog bones in. What is going on around here?

Re: In first heat and now our male dog is marking?

Yep, your male is marking his territory because your girl is in heat. Even neutered, it is very possible that he will act just like an intact male would, including trying to breed your girl. Just because his testicles are gone, doesn't mean anything.
I would step up his obedience so that he will be more attentive to you then to your puppy. When my girl goes into heat, we do a lot of attention heeling and "push-ups" in the house. Also up his exercise. A tired dog is a good dog. I have been known to play fetch with my males until 11 pm just to tire them out enough for me to sleep. Don't be surprised if your male starts to howl.
Again, if you catch him in the act of marking, let him know that it is still YOUR house and not his to mark. You are in charge and he will just have to behave himself.
