| My 7 month old puppy had giardia a few months ago and the medicine cleared it up and his poop was firm again within a day or so. 3 days ago I came home to loose stools all over his kennel. His testicles were also red and hot, so I rushed him to the vet who checked his stool and said he has giardia again. He thinks his back end is yucky because he is trying to lick his rear. He has been on the medicine for 3 days and there is no change in his stool. I just got off the phone with the vet who said we should do blood work tomorrow to rule out anything else. isnt giardia hard to get rid of?? Does anyone else know what this could be? He eats timber wolf and had been doing fine. Poor guy- the skin on his testicles is now peeling. He has a e collar on and we have cream from the vet to put on him. |

| Well we just got back from the vet AGAIN and we are running some blood work to see if he is having a pancreatic deficiency or intestinal issues. He gave us Prednisone and did another fecal which giardia did not show up on. I know giardia can be tough to get rid of. Has no one else had this issue? |

| Re: Giardia or ? From what I understand Giardia never really goes away but lays dormant in the dog until it is stressed and then the symptoms will show up...diarrhea, and upset stomach. Many times a three day treatment will not work for the dog. Have you ask the vet for other medication options for giardia? There is also now a vaccine for it that may help. |

| Re: Giardia or ? Ok, so now im curious about the stuff... I am Dog Sitting a German Shorthair, and he eats like there is no tomorrow... Has had the runs for as long as the owner can remember. The stools are light tan in color, and runny... not like water runny but, no firmness to it either... and he has gas alot also. he doesnt seem to gain weight. I mean he isnt REAL skinny but you can see his hip bones, cant see the ribs or anything like that. Since i have had him here i have been feeding him Solid Gold and she still has the runs after a week. so maybe this is something i should get him checked for?
