Undifferentiated Sarcoma

My girl Tasha was diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma. We found it because she had a sore on the left front elbow. I went to an oncologist and my regular vet who is wonderful. I decided to amputate the leg and she is having chemo done. I made that decision because she is so full of zest, and she is only 5. She has done great with the amputation and she has had 4 chemo sessions so far. We only have 2 left. She does get sick for 2 days but than she is back to her crazy playful self. She loves her diet of cooked meats and grain free high protein dog food. I don't really have any questions I just wanted to share her experience. She is one of the most amazing dogs I have been around.

Re: Undifferentiated Sarcoma

What an ordeal....cancer is just rotten. I am really glad your Tasha is doing so well. I hope you both have many many more happy days together.
I must say though...there may come a day...when enough is enough...and I pray you will recognize that and act accordingly.
Best wishes.
ROCK ON TASHA!!

Re: Undifferentiated Sarcoma

I am so glad that your Tasha is doing well.

Can I offer some suggestions to starve off the cancer? (I already knew these but I saw an article on dogs and cancer on the internet this morning which reminded me.)
Low carbohydrates.
Ground flaxseed/oil or salmon oil.
Add amino acids: Arginine to boost the immune system, Glutamine for the gastrointestional tract (helps while on chemo) and Glycine for the kidneys.
Vitamin A, C, E and Selenium as antioxidants.

Tasha is so young I know this has to be very hard on you.
I pray you have a very long time together.

Re: Undifferentiated Sarcoma

Sorry to hear of Tasha's diagnosis but sounds like you have a good plan in place to keep her pain free and happy. My 10yo male was diagnosed with osteosarcoma(right rear ilia) approx 1 1/2 months ago amp was out(would have required hemi or partial pelvictomy) due to kidney issues, right now we are doing radiation and pimidronate iv. He is on a low carb, no grain diet, and gets salmon oil daily, he also right now is on tramadol and deramaxx for pain control. I would definitely check into the fish oil but check with your vet before adding any anti oxidants while undergoing chemo. Of course you should check with your vet before adding any supplements:) Just take one day at a time and enjoy each day with her. Give her gentle hugs from Rock and I!!

Re: Undifferentiated Sarcoma

Thank you everyone. I chose to do the treatment course with Tasha because she has so much life in her. I am not afraid to say enough is enough. I have already decided that if it comes back that I will not do anymore. Sheenagirl thank you for the list. You basically showed me that I am doing the right things for her, because she is taking all of those things. I am giving her every opportunity possible. Just last night she was playing tug of war with my English Mastiff MoJo and winning of course. I think most of that is because she is one very intelligent girl.
I appreciate all of the support. It is so helpful while going through it.
Selena I hope you have many happy days with your boy. It can be emotionally draining that is for sure.

One week from today Tasha will have her last chemo session. She is doing so well. I just keep hoping every day that she will be happy and healthy for a long time. Thank you for your kind words.
