using both DogGonePain and Traumeel together for arthritis?

I've been supplimenting my old girl with gluc/chond, ester-C, vit E, MSM and Dog Gone Pain...that's kept her pretty mobile but she clearly has some issues walking and tends to bunny hop and is sometimes reluctant to leave her doggie bed. I am trying to avoid NSAIDS and am considering adding traumeel. Has anyone ever tried using both traumeel AND DogGonePain together? Would that be safe? and for those using traumeel, the site said to use it sub-lingually (under tongue)...is that how you administer it???? How much improvement have you seen using traumeel?

Re: using both DogGonePain and Traumeel together for arthritis?

I use traumeel along with glucosamine, fish oil, and vit. E for my boxer that has hip displaysia, and have found that it works wonders since adding it in. I just put drops onto her food. I also sometimes switch in ubavet and use it with the traumeel. I hardly ever have to give her metacam anymore...

Re: using both DogGonePain and Traumeel together for arthritis?

I've used and recommended traumeel on many occasions. I think the best way to get a dog to get amounts throughout the day, not one or 2 larger doses, is by adding it to it's water bowl. I would think 20-30 drops per fill up is good.

I am not aware of any complications with Traumeel, but that doesn't mean some interactions with other things may exist. I think arnica is its primary ingredient. Whats in Doggonepain? I can't seem to find a list of ingredients. I would get google happy, and search each's primary ingredients, and see if you can find any negative information on it. (Or better yet contact a local naturopath doctor and ask!)

Good luck.

Re: using both DogGonePain and Traumeel together for arthritis?

Bear was given a homeopathic remedy when he had eaten a bad bone and was VERY sick. Thje vet explained that this should be given between meals to work properly and that I should touch the tincture and the bottle, and the dropper as little as possible.

I had given Bear traumeel along with salmon oil and glucosamine when he hurt his leg last winter and after remembering what the vet told me, I would crush the pill in a pill crusher ($2.99 at a drugstore), add some filtered water and give it to him via eyedropper.

Homeopathy uses minute amounts of "active" ingredient so it's apparently not very likely to interact poorly with anything else. I think you'd be OK.

Re: using both DogGonePain and Traumeel together for arthritis?

From the Doggonepain label:

Important notice:

If your dog is already on medication, discuss DGP with your vet before using. The enzymes it contains have the potential for altering the rate of absorption of medications, such as antibiotics, anticoagulants, and NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). Also, several of the ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties that could possibly enhance the blood thinning properties of anticoagulant drugs.

I would check with a homeopathic pharmacist before mixing these two treatments.

I gave liquid Traumeel by squirting in the lip pocket at least 30 minutes prior to meals. The homeopathic pharmacy told me "homeopathics and food don't mix" and to always give homeopathics between meals or at least 30 minutes prior to feeding.

The only caution I'm aware of with Traumeel is that because it is what is considered a complex homeopathic (containing several homeopathic ingredients), if it is used without a break and based on the entire premise of "like cures like", a dog can develop mock symptoms of a disease he does not have. For that reason, I was told to use it on a schedule of 5 week on, 2 weeks off.
