| 7 month old constant diarrhea Maybe it is slightly thicker than straight full blown diarrhea but lately any kibble he gets ends up coming out rather fast. My vet recommended a bland diet, ground beef and rice, to solidify things but I know it can only be a temp thing. They, 7 month and 4 year old, were both recently switched from Nature's Variety to Timberwolf. This is the second bag of Timberwolf. Should I just go back to the Nature's Variety? He seems to like the beef and venison but not the salmon. I'd try out Canidae but the only place that sells it around here isn't getting my business. He has had a stool sample tested to rule out anything abnormal. |

| Re: 7 month old constant diarrhea I would put him on the bland diet to start, and keep him on it for 3 days beyond when he appears to have made a full recovery.....then put him back on the Prairie, if he did well with it. Not all good foods agree with all dogs. They have their own set of unique tolerances, just like us. There are many dogs that don't do well with fish, so just use the Prairie foods he does do well with. |

| Re: 7 month old constant diarrhea I'd switch him back to Nature's Variety too. Samson and Gretchen don't do very well on Innova Evo Red Meat. Everything else I've tried in rotation they do well with, but not the Red Meat.

| Re: 7 month old constant diarrhea How long has it been since the switch? Why did you do the switch if Nature's Variety was working well? THey are both excellent foods. How much are you feeding? Sometimes a switch can cause loose stools for quite a while till the dog's system adjusts. My switch from fish to chicken in the same brand caused loose stools for 1.5 weeks. YOu may want to add 1-2 tbsp of diatemacious earth (natural food grade kind), mixed with a bit of water in the food to keep down the powder. DE helps the stomach digest the kibble better by keeping the food particles seperate, adds a bit of bulk to help express the anal glands , and a toxin binder too.

| Re: 7 month old constant diarrhea Some dogs I think are intolerant to some things a friend of mine's dog had constantant loose stool when eating foods containing lamb but no Chicken, go figure! A lot of us like to switch foods and protien sources up but if you have a dog with a sensitive system, I think you are better off sticking with the same food, especially when it's a good one.

| Re: 7 month old constant diarrhea How's it going? My adopted doggie, who is right around 1 has a very sensitive tummy too. I would like to be able to pick up dog poo instead of having to hose it down. He was on something called Professional Chicken and Rice when I got him, but they don't sell it here, so I picked up some Nutro Sensitive Stomach formula (chicken, rice, and oatmeal) and started mixing with what she gave me. Someone gave a tip that seems to be working. About a 1/3 cup canned pumpkin mixed into the food a few times a week. Just make sure you don't get the mix with the spices in it. Just plain pumpkin. I don't think we will ever have "hard turds" but it can be picked up at least. I hope you are doing ok now. I feel like I did when my babies had the runs 20+ years ago. So worried. Best of luck, and I hope you find something that works for your baby. Sharon |

| Re: 7 month old constant diarrhea He is doing much better, thanks. I know that you are supposed to try to mix the food ratios when changing but I was unable to plan ahead this time. I just picked up another bag of Timberwolf, the Lamb and Apple flavor, and am going to mix it in with the Bison one so he can adjust better. The lady who owns the store seems very fanatical on these natural foods and says that I should never feed the exact same brand, same flavor every time. She said I should mix the flavors, say start with Lamb, then salmon, then beef, then chicken, then venison.... I'm going to stick with the Timberwolf now even though I may have to take out a second mortgage to keep buying it, yeeesh it is expensive. They are charging about $55 for a 33lb bag here. |
