i have owned my rottie for 6 weeks so she is 16 weeks old. ever since we have owned her she seems to get car sick. as soon as you put her in the car she starts exsessive drooling then eventually she throws up just as we get back home. we have tried to feed her ginger snaps 10 to 20 mins before we go out , we have also purchased a anti static ground strip for the cars we have also tried to take her out in the car to somewhere nice like the park so she looks forward to the outcome. she has travelled alone in the car and also with my other dog, we have also tried to just leave her in the car while the car isnt moving for ten mins with the engine running. the vet says she will grow out of it and refuses to give me any medication to help her, it is very fustrating as we want to travel to shows with her but fear that she will throw up and make a mess of herself. we go out a lot in the summer to the beach and camping over the weekends and are verry worried that we wont be able to do so with her. my oter dog has never been car sick and i dont know of anyone else who has a dog who suffers from car sickness. if you have any ideas that work please reply to this thread.:

| Re: car sickness help... Here's a thread another poster started last week in a different forum. I posted some links in there that you may find helpful, as well as the suggestions offered by other posters.

i feel its somethin to do with dog to dog differenciation. some dogs are more likely than others then in this case train...training...in the best cause. By training can overcome a lot of problems. for a change try dumping your rottie to a 4x4.. that might do the trick..Kidding

Re: car sickness help... we own a 4x4 and she is still being sick. we have tried to feed her in the car we have tried penning her in the back with a blanket over the cage and lots of other things as stated on my last thread. she is now 5 months old and the vet is still saying that he wont give her any medication for the sickness aas shes still young and may grow out of it. this is very fustrating as we took her to a show the other week and all she did was throw up and drool from the second she got into the car,she actually thew up all over the other dog. please can someone surgest anything.

Re: car sickness help... My vet recommended Dramamine, given at least half an hour before the trip for my carsick Baby Bear. It helps with the vomiting, but he still drools a lot if the car trip is more than 20-30 minutes. Talk to your vet before you give Dramamine to your dog, he/she can tell you the proper dosage for your dog.

Re: car sickness help... My son's dog suffered car sickness for all of his 8 years. The only thing that did help was the human anti-nausea, Maxalon. We tried all the conditioning in the book. He was always sick until we gave him Maxalon. Ginger biscuits or tablets had no affect at all on him.

Re: car sickness help... funny you mention this...we just talked to our vet this morning about it. Our 6 month old gets car sick and our vet recommended dramamine. He said there's a lot of variables involved tho on how much to give and when to give it. He said to start with 1/2 a tablet about 20-30 before the car ride. Like you, we like to take our dogs a lot of places but it kinda puts a damper on it when she starts throwing up everywhere! Talk to your vet about the dramamine.

Re: car sickness help... Chunk had car sickness for the first year of his life. We tried Dramamine, didn't help. However, he did outgrow it after about a year and is good to go now. Hopefully, your girl will outgrow it. Good luck Cindy

Re: car sickness help... We just got back from a 5 day trip to the lake in Laughlin. Took both dogs(Brina and Meeka). Meeka did ok on the way there, but the way home she got sick. We always put down a big thick moving blanket in our surburban, so if she gets sick its not on the uplostery. I also have her food bowl handy and keep an eye on her, when she looked like she was going to get sick(drooling), stuck the bowl under her mouth and she got sick in the bowl, easy clean up. But its not always that easy everytime. I pretty much accept she is going to sick so i am prepared for it until she grows out of it. Brina used to get sick as a puppy but she grew out of it too. I noticed that the less pitching of the car the better. We took Meeka to a local lake close by a couple of week ago in my sons 4x4, and she really got sick. I think 4x4s have to much pitching back and forth. Had a great time at the lake though, cant wait to post some great pictures of brina and meeka having fun in the lake. Brinabear
