SADIE in PA appointment.

Sadie just had another appointment to see if there was any cancer in
her lungs, and the results came back good! We are now looking into
amputating her leg and doing chemotherapy. It's her best shot at
survival. We want to give her the best chance and the pain she's
having now is much worse than recovering from amputation. If we do
nothing, she could be gone in a couple weeks to a couple months. Her
thigh is so swollen it looks bigger than a coconut now. She's already
walking on 3 legs so I'm sure she will adapt fine after the surgery.
She is our baby and I don't want to give up on her if there's a chance
at more life. With the amputation & chemo combined she has from
6 months to 2 years. If we only do amp without chemo, she has 3 to 6
months. Keep Sadie in your prayers. Not sure when this will take
place, but we aren't going to wait too long. We were told that chemo
may affect her kidneys. Any advice?? or stories with chemo
complications??
Thanks, I am very nervous for the road ahead. But I feel good about
today's appointment.

Re: SADIE in PA appointment.

Glad to hear your girl does not have cancer in her lungs. I haven't been on the site much and I may have missed one of your previous threads. How old is Sadie?

Re: SADIE in PA appointment.

I know you want only the best for Sadie. Please consider her quality of life and if she will enjoy her remaining time and if she is strong enough to recover from the surgery. Had my Daisy been diagnosed with cancer, I'd have spoiled her "Rotten", treated her pain, and then helped her cross the Bridge. Just my feelings, and I do not mean to be judgmental. Sometimes letting our dogs go is the greatest gift we can give them. I am so sorry she is suffering, and that you are suffering too. Please let us help you carry this burden.

Re: SADIE in PA appointment.

We think she's about 6 or 7. She was adopted from our local animal shelter. She came in as a stray and our vet at that time estimated her to be
1 1/2 to 2 years old ( Dec. 2002). Her story is here if you want to read.

Re: SADIE in PA appointment.

As I understand it, by the time a tumor is that size, it can be "seeded" in many other places in the body, including the lungs, too small to see. I hope that is not the case with Sadie, and that you get the time you are looking for. I would not put an OS dog through this, but that is a choice you are free to make. You will be in my prayers as you both go through this. We are all here to help you.

I "SO" agree!!!Let me add I "WAS" in this very same position in October and did exactly what you said livertw. Also observer offered some valuable information. Remember dogs live in the here and now. I know how devasting all this is for you and am so sorry Sadie and you are traveling this path. I pray for strength and guidance during this most difficult time for you and your special girl.
