From Merck Veterinary Manual, eighth edition:
"Leukoencephalomyelopathy of Rottweilers has a later onset than neuraxonal dystrophy, usually at ~2-3 years of age. It is possible that the two disorders have a similar basis because animals occasionally may show histopathologic features of both conditions. In leukoencephalomyelopathy, there is no head tremor and paw position sense is delayed. Spinal cord demyelination is the predominant finding on necropsy." It appears that the only definitive diagnosis is from a necropsy.
