Cyst like protrusion or lump on my rott

Hi!

I have a problem again with my rott. http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/frown.gif When I'm holding her, I found out that she has ceist like protrusions or lump on his skin located at her left shoulder. When you are looking at her, you will not notice it but when you touch the area you will feel it.

Is there anybody has an experience like this on their rotts? What caused this? I haven't talked or visited my vet coz I just noticed it last night. I have a scheduled visit on my vet this friday and for the meantime, I need you comments.

Thanks in advance

Charlotte

Is the lump attached or can you move it around under the skin? If it's loose it could be any number of things, like a lypoma or fatty tumor (benign but should be removed as it can attach & grow quite large). If it's hard & not easily movable it could be a sebacious gland cyst, although these are more common on Bassets than Rotts. Another possibility is a hematoma - sort of like a blood blister. None of these are serious. If it's a lump on a bone it could be serious or it could be something as benign as a calcium deposit.

The lump is very loose. You can move it when you touch it and it seems it is just on the back of the skin. If this is lypoma or fatty tumor, Is this serious? Is this can be treated by medicines alone? or It really needs a surgery? What caused this? Where did my puppy get this?

Thanks Nancy.

I am still puzzled where did my puppy get this. http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/frown.gif Is this a food allergy co'z I'm shifting to a new food right now (from Eukanuba Large Breed to Pro Plan) or an Insect bite that caused an infection?

I hope when I visited my vet, all you've said Nancy is correct that this is not serious.. huh! I can't wait any longer.

And Is it possisble that this "sickness" makes my puppy eat less nowadays?

Thanks again.

I doubt it's an allergy or your dog would have bumps (hives) all over rather than just one. It could be a reaction to an insect bite or a grass burr or something like that that only affected one spot. How old is your puppy? Lots of things can affect appetite that wouldn't have anything to do with a bump http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/smile.gif.

Nancy,

My puppy would be 4 months old this coming Sunday (19th). She is still on medication right now for her Anemia. I'm using Sangobion tablet an Iron plus Multivitamin and I last visited my vet last Friday Sept 10 and She injected something on my rott. This is the second injection for his blood. And the reason why I need to go to the vet this friday is to check for her blood again.

By the way, My Rott is the choosy Rott that I posted. When the vet sees my pup last Sat, she said that my puppy is a bit underweight so she adviced me again to put some ground beef or liver to her dog food. On the first 3 days, my pup ate a lot and fast. But now, she is gradually coming back to her old habit of not interested in eating.
But I think the problem of not eating is not so complicated right now, I now know that she doesn't really like the Eukanuba. and yesterday, my stock of Pro Plan runs out so when I gave a meal of Euks, she is back to her habit again...

And one more time, Is over supplement of Calcium can cause this lump? coz I remembered that last Sunday I double the dosage of her vitamins as instructed by my vet and all in all I gave 4 tablets of Calcium (Kondog)given 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening and 2 tablets of Multivitamins (one in the morning and one in the evening). I'll check later the mg of these tablets.

Bye and Thanks again and again.

Charlotte

A lypoma is really nothng to worry about. The only reason to remove it is that it can grow larger and eventually attach to the body. At that point it can be very difficult or impossible to remove. It's just a proliferation of fat cells that basically don't do anything bad; just get in the way of other, normal tissue. Whatever it is that your dog has, it doesn't sound like it's serious.

Another possibility is an infection. I can't remember the actual terminology. About a year ago Titan had four lumps on his side that sound like you're describing.(Freaked me out!!) It turned out that he had apparently been bitten by some kind of insect that he was allergic to and scratched himself into infection!! They cleared up with some antibiotics. A quick side note - he lost his hair and it never grew back on those four little spots!!

Unless your Rottie has a calcium deficiency, calcium supplements can do more harm than good with growing puppies. But I would doubt it would cause the bump. It is possible, too, that the bump is an injection site. Sometimes the area where a shot is given will swell up. Your puppy's anemia problem could possibly cause lack of energy and appetite.

Hi!

I visited my vet today, and she said that the lump is just a reaction on the injection. She said that this will be gone in a few days and we just avoid touching it.

I am also glad that my pup is not now underweight http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/smile.gif Last week she weighs at 28 lbs at 16 weeks and today, after 7 days, she is now 35 lbs! 1 lb. a day increase!

Bye and Thanks for everything.
