Mestastisis to the Lungs

Does anyone know of the symptoms of osteosarcoma mestastisizing into the lungs. Gretta over the weekend started panting heavier than normal. The leg is doing absolutely great (extremely very slight limp)and her spirits are great. She is breathing heavier than normal. Did anyone have first the lungs affected before the pain in the limbs? I am beside my self worrying.

It does sound like symptoms of lung problems to me - especially considering that there's already been a diagnosis of osteosarcoma. But it is always possible that's it's due to something else. Endurance could be affected by drugs, for instance. Unfortunately, you're not going to know for sure without seeing the vet.

Nancy,
The only drug that Gretta is on now is Phenylbutozone - 2 100 mg 2x a day. The rest is shark cartilage and IP6 (nutritional). I will try to find out what side affects the bute has or if it is the osteosarcoma. I guess I am avoiding the inevitable. If it is due to the osteosarcoma, it really traveled quickly. I hope not - I can't loose her yet.
Thanks for your info.

I doubt it's the Bute; it's been years since I've used it on a dog but I don't think that's a side-effect. It could be allergy-related.

Nancy,
Unfortunately I am at work, but my husband called and told me Gretta was doing better. Her panting is not as heavy as last nite. So I pray and pray it is just the humidity and being out in the pool area with us yesterday. Unfortunately our weather here in N.E. Pennsylvania has been wet (finally) and high humidity. We keep the air on 70 degrees for her. If there was a cure in Timbuctoo I would take her! Just grasping at straws! Thanks as always. Colleen

It could very well be the heat and humidity. You might want to let your vet know in case he feels an x-ray is necessary.

Thanks again Nancy,
I am waiting for his return call now.
During the night she slept alot better and wasn't panting with her mouth open as she was the night before. So we both slept much better. It is amazing to see her front left leg that has the tumor looks great and has not changed since the first two weeks she was diagnosed on Aug. 2.

Manny didn't have any breathing problems but then it was winter time here. He had no visible real signs that it was spreading until 3 days before he was put to sleep. It obviously went to his spine making him imobile. I just thank god that he didn't get that sick and didn't have to see that indifferent painful look in his eyes. He was my baby and will always hold a big piece of my heart. Even though I now have a new Westie puppy.
