Treatment after ligament surgery

Our 4 year old had surgery for a completely torn knee ligament in the beginning of April. Our vets are now telling us we should use some type of medication to help prevent the joint from deteriorating. They suggested Gycoflex and/or Adequen. I am having difficulty getting much info on this type of med. Do they work? What works best? How expensive is this treatment? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi Wanda,

Check out this link. I had asked about this product awhile back and I found the replies very helpful.

Wanda just had cruciate ligament surgery on my 1 1/2 year old Rottie 2 weeks ago, and I have her on Cosequin DS which has Glucosamine and Chondroitin and it is working great I also feed Iams Large Breed which has both of these things in it also. These pills run about $60.00 for 120 capsules and you have to give up to 4 a day depending on size of dog for 6 weeks then reduce dosage.
