Hotdogs indigestible? or Bad for 3 mo. Rott?

Hi to all,

Is Hotdogs indigestible? or it is bad for a baby 3 mos. Rott? My father gave 1 piece hotdog cut to 7-8 pieces and gave it to my Rott and this morning and afternoon, my rott ate so little. Is this normal? am I need to worry? pls. help. I'm new with Pure-bred dog or Rott.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think they're any better for dogs than they are for people http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/smile.gif. However, they are routinely used (in tiny pieces) for *rewards* when training. But I wouldn't use them as a regular diet item - like a whole one at one time.

A whole hotdog for a three month old puppy woud be like giving a two year old a pint of ice cream. No, he probably wouldn't be hungery. If you want to use them for treats, cut them into slices about double the thickness of a nickle, and then cut that into four pieces. Better yet, micro wave the penny slices: place slices on a double thickness of paper towel and covered by a double thickness of paper towel; zap for four minutes; let cool for four minutes; turn them over and zap again for four minutes. This gets a lot of the fat and salt out. Since you now have something like hotdog jerky, you don't have to refrigerate. I used to love hotdogs; you know, America, apple pie, etc. Then I had occasion to hold raw pieces in my mouth for several minutes. Yuuk! I never realized how salty and fat they were.

I use thinly sliced Turkey hotdog treats. Turkey hotdogs are made out of a leaner meat and better digestible protein. I don't like the pork and beef "stuff", too fatty and too greasy...

judyv,
I don't "nuke'em" since they are already pre-cooked, so I just sliced the hotdogs and use them as I need'em... besides, turkey has much less risk of bacteria than beef and pork.

I'm not from the states so i don't even know what kind off meat is in hot dogs, i don't wanna know LOL

Remember human food is to salty for dogs and remember NEVER to feed your dog with pork meat !! Not even dried !!

Lotte how 'bout baking some treats for your dog. It's a lot of fun, and if you make them yourself, you know exactly what your dog is getting. I have a few recipes on my web page www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/7900/boneappetit.html . The liver treats were a big hit with the pooches at Pet Fest in Austin, TX, but they made my house smell absolutely horrid! My dogs also like the chewy cheese biscuits.
