Re: Exposure to Parvo infected dog

clean well wherever the parvo pup was. water/bleach mix and wash in hot water or throw out blankets/bedding it used.
i would not worry as much for the 1.5 year old, but more for the 6 months old.
if the 6 mos old had shots recently and had at least 2 parvo boosters before, it is probably allright. you can ask your vet to run titers on both your dogs for parvo.
if any signs of lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, see your vet asap.
hopefully all will be ok.

Re: Exposure to Parvo infected dog

it means, from exposure, they can show symptons in that time frame if affected.

Re: Exposure to Parvo infected dog

don't panic. what happened,happened.
ask your vet to run a titer, and if only had two sets of parvo in his whole life, and last one was 3-4 weeks ago, ask vet about boostering once more.
but usually after 6 months, if had a parvo vaccs after 16 weeks, and came from a vaccinated mother, they do ok and have enough immunity by then. but
of course, any sign of acting sick, have your vet see him asap.

Re: Exposure to Parvo infected dog

i believe it takes a few days...but if he was vaccinated a few weeks ago, that will show up on the titer as well.
i would run it for peace of mind...but, if god forbid, they act sick, have the vet see them. they are probably ok in immunity by now.
if they are eating, happy and ok, nothing to worry about.
call your vet in am and see what he advices you too.

Re: Exposure to Parvo infected dog

As mentioned before, throw out or wash anything the pup slept on or chewed on (stuffies, etc) in hot, soapy water with bleach. Spray the area of the yard with 10% bleach/water solution. It has to be fresh, so only make up what you are going to use right then. The parvo virus can live in the envirnment for a year or so if given the right conditions.
Wash your clothes and shoes of everyone that was in the house and has been worn since the puppy was there.
It is VERY possible that your 6 month old puppy is fully vacinated against parvo. A shot given 3 weeks ago is effective (assuming he has a normal immune system). The reason why younger puppies get several shots is that no one knows exactly when mother's immunity wears off and the shots take effect. If a shot is given while the puppy still has his mother's immunity, the shot is effectively neutralized. One shot is enough as long as the timing is good. Being 5 months old, the timing should be good.
I would also wash the dogs in as warm a water they can stand with lots of shampoo. Rinse well.
Keep an eye on their eating and drinking habits and their energy level. Watch them poop to make sure the poops are normal and smell "normal".
More then likely, your dogs are fine. But being paranoid is not a bad thing. Good luck.
