Head shaking

I'm wondering if anyone has had a pup with allergies in the ears that cause constant head shaking? I thought Kain probably had ear mites or even water in his ears-he swims alot. However the vet checked him out and said his inner ear was inflamed, no mites or water. He gave us an antibiotic spray for his ears-that was FUN! ;-) WE did that for 10 days and he continued to shake his head. Then the vet gave him 7 days of oral antibiotics. Still he continues to shake his head. The inflamation is still there, and now the vet says its allergies (to what I'm not sure)and we should give him Benydryll twice daily.
I'm wondering if we should keep him out of the water? It would be difficult because he enjoys it so much-he thinks he's a retriever!
Any ideas or suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Pam

I would keep him for two weeks and mointor the difference. Afterwards I would buy him a wading pool. It may be the algea in the water that is causing the problem.

When I used to SCUBA dive we would put hydrogen peroxide in our ears after diving to kill off any "funk" from the water. Would this work for dog ? Might be funny to watch !
