Thumbs up Osteosarcoma vs. Osteomyelitis

My 7 yr old rott has an extra thick jaw bone on one side and we just noticed this. We went for an xray and my vet, whom I don't care for, said 80% cancer. We are going to a specialist on thursday, we are hoping just for a bone infection. Can anyone help or tell me of any other stories regarding the jaw. I am so upset. We have already have had TPLO on both of her knees. I thought that osteosarcoma could only happen to their limps.....Help

Re: Osteosarcoma vs. Osteomyelitis

OS can manifest in ANY bone and very often in bone that has had previous insult. I believe a member on here had a dog with OS in the jaw, lets hope they see this and post as I can only really give info on OS in the limbs, as both of my rotties contacted.

Re: Osteosarcoma vs. Osteomyelitis

One of our members, Barb, her Rottie Frank had cancer in his jaw. He did well for about 2 years, and just recently crossed the Bridge. Both my Rotties, Buster and Bettis, had OS in their lung and rear leg, respectively.

Re: Osteosarcoma vs. Osteomyelitis

My Tuxedo had OS in both lower jaws. He was almost 11 1/2 yo. It was discovered in the advance stages as we had absolutely no prior indication. Due to the advance of the disease, there weren't many options. He was on prednisone until he crossed the bridge. He was a not-weiler who shared 3 months with us after diagnosis. I am very sorry you are going through this with your girl...you will both be in my thoughts and prayers...
