Excessive sheding????? Capone is a 1 1/2 year old German Rottweiler. I live in the midwest (Illinois) and it has been a fairly mild winter. I need to know why he is shedding so much hair, is this normal for rotties? His coat looks excellent. There are no signs of thinning anywhere, but if this continues the way it has we will be the proud owners of a bald rottie. Do rotties change their coats in the winter or during growth periods? He has gained 12 lbs. in the last 3 months. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I live in Northwest Indiana and I'm having the same problem over the last couple weeks. It must be something due to the weather this year.

Most Rotties seem to go through a "major" shed once or twice a year. Thank goodness, my dog only does it once, but she does it in the summer. I know the amount of hair looks absolutely astronomical, but don't worry, as the old ones are coming out, the new ones are coming in. My dog has yet to go bald.
