How tight to adjust collar?

Hello All,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question... I've already searched the archives...

I've had Dante for about a month now. I got him a new collar when I got him, but he lost it. I bought a new collar for him this evening. It was the biggest collar I could find at WalMart...

I think it's a little too big, because I can easily slip it over his head, so I made a new hole in it to make it tighter...

I'm not sure how tight his collar needs to be. I don't want to make him uncomfortable, but I don't want him to keep losing collars, either... This one is a wide (about 1 1/2"), heavy nylon collar, not the choke kind.

Thanks for your advice!

You should just be able to slip the 4 fingers on your hand under the collar. (you should be able to wiggle your fingers).
Be sure and check it fairly often while he is growing.

We use the 2 finger method here, and as said before keep an eye on it as your pup grows.
