Paralised hind leg

Hi. My female Rott is suffering paralysis of her right hind leg. The Vet has done X-rays and there are no signs of bone disease or damage. He said something about it possibly being neuorolgical or related to the Centeral Nervous system. Does anyone know what any of this means??? The Vet was very wishy washy and is at the moment treating her with Anti-Inflamitory tabs. Its Day 3 now and she still cant walk at all. She drags the leg badly. Has anyone had a similar problem or have any idea what it may be?? Also does anyone know how the heck to keep a rotti who is mentally alert and active but MUST remain Physically still?? I can't even begin to think about what we might have to do If she doesn't recover... Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

Where the actual hips x-rayed? Did your Vet look for ligament damage? I don't know if that shows up in the x-ray. If your dog is not responding at all to anti-inflammatories I would pressure your vet for more care on your animal or go to another vet. I have two vets. My 6 year old used to be immobile after a hard play time with my sisters Golden. After a nap and a few hours of walking it off she would recover. What your dog is suffering from is obviously not the same. How old is your Rottie?

I had a problem with my Rotts front legs. They did x-rays and found two vertebra almost touching they said it was from some kind of old injury. He started out limping in one leg and then could hardly walk at all. They gave us anti inflamatories too. I dont mean to scare you but he just got worse and became totally paralized in both front legs. The only thing we could do was put him down. It broke our hearts but we had no other choice. My message to you is find a better vet. There could be something they are missing. Good Luck

Hi, I have only just figured out how to reply on this thing My Rott is three and after the advice here I did go to another vet. They both seem to think that because there is no bone damage and its been 6 days with very very slight improvment that it may be a spinal cord problem. They have given Bear more dugs and are leaving her with Us for 10 days or so and then re-evaluating. It's just so hard to see her like she is, but putting her to sleep is something i cant begin to cotemplate yet. Thanks for the advice. Emmi

You might look into taking her to a specialist who could better determine if it is indeed a spinal/neurological problem. If, for instance, it is an infection you would need to have her on the proper antibiotics, etc., as soon as possible. Ask the vet for a recommendation or referral.
