Watery Ears?

Himself Mr. Bear has of late been doing this amusing "shake shake shake" thing with his ears that make him look like an out of control prop plane.

Today I happened to be close enough to him to hear "slosh slosh slosh" during the "shake shake shake." (Think water on the brain is why he's Monsterboy somedays? Ha ha)

How do you drain water from a dog ear? And how is it getting in there?

Oh, NO!! The dreaded "brains turning to water" syndrome... Means Bear will always be wildly frisky, always want to play, will never slow down to give you a moment's rest...

Sorry--I couldn't resist.

Gotta say, I don't know. Is Bear a water baby, going swimming all the time? Do both ears slosh or only one?

Very funny, AngelBunny.

Unfortunately, I know those symptoms much too well by now Sarah. Cisco has had chronic ear infections since he was a pup.

He was clear for about a year, but then he started "Shake, shake, shake". (And yes, when you rub his ears, they "squish".) The vet gave me Lotrimin, which we did drops for two weeks. He still wasn't better, so they put him on Otamax for 3 weeks. His ears kept getting worse (and he hates for me to put the drops in anyway).

Finally, I took charge and quit letting the vet give me "Let's try this (prescriptions)." I took a swab sample at home and dropped it off at the vets office. "Oh...gee Lotrimin and Otamax won't work on this type of infection." Well, duh!!!

Anyway, he's now on a different ear drop plus oral antibiotics, and getting better.

There are two different types of ear infections...don't let your vet give you just anthing for him. Make sure they do a culture...it'll save you a lot of time, money, and get your guy feeling better faster!

AngelBunny,

Ha ha. Today they: chewed my sunglasses to bits, and these are the ones that have lasted four years, even surviving my not-too-tiny tush being placed upon them inadvertently numerous times; ate a four foot by two inch strip of carpet (thank goodness, at the office) and then beamed innocelty up at me ("what carpet? I didn't eat any carpet")with strings of multicolored industrial carpet dangling from their grinning lips; chewed the cover of the roller ball of my office chair to the point it is now a stationary ball; pottied on the bed, AGAIN; and did all of it with a look of such total love and sweet innocence that it is very difficult to get mad - or at least stay there.

Cricket,

WAHHHHHH. That's what I was afraid of. I used to have chronic ear infections myself; wonder if he caught it from me . Shoot. The part I hate is that my vet acts like I'm an over protective worry wart as it is. I can just see his face... dang.

Thanks, though!
