| My one year old male has recently been licking one of his paws more then the other. Today i noticed it was a bit redish, and there was a small cut. He would be licking it and crying. Ive put some anti itching/insect cream over it (the human kind) and ive put a sock over his paw which seems to be helping a lot because he isnt itching or crying any more (only walking weirdly). When he went for a walk (to do his business), i took the sock off for a minute and he kept biting the paw, as if though its itching. I put the sock back on.. Tomorrow i will be taking him to the vet but does anyone know what it could be caused by? When i first noticed the cut, ive squeezed his paw to see if the actual paw is hurting him and there were no signs of pain. Tonight when i squeezed it, he tries to get free and get me to let his paw go..im not sure if this is because it has suddenly started hurting, or because he has felt it hurt while hes licking it so now he is afriad that it will hurt. Are there any "At home" remedies i can use until tomorrow..? He is peacefully sleeping now but if he wakes up..and takes it off..is there anything i can put on it to make it better? I should also add that as a pup he was very prone to alergies... but usually eyes and ears..never paws. |

| Re: please help (Urgent) The best thing to do is what you are already doing...taking him to the vet. It could be lots of different things, and it's really hard to diagnose over the internet. They can get "lick granulomas "just FROM licking, without any cut to start with, or they can lick a small abrasion to the point they make it worse. Tell your vet what you have told us, and good luck!

| Re: please help (Urgent) If he is itching you could give him some benadryl...dogs get a bigger dose than humans...duggan had to have 4 of them when he got stung. That might help for now. if it is cut another good thing would be some neosporin...and keep a sock on it until you can bet him to the vet. |
