| TPLO surgery?? Hello Everyone! I am new here. I have been "lurking on your forum" for a couple of weeks now. I stumbled upon it while doing some research regarding a TPLO surgery. My rottie Xena is 4 years old. At 7 months she was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia. At 17 months she underwent THR surgery on her right hip. Her left hip is stil bad but not any worse that it was. A couple of weeks ago I took her to the vet because she was limping again. He x-rayed her hips and her prostetic is good and her left hip wasn't any worse than before. My concern was that she was favoring her right side. The vet came to the conclusion that her right knee was the problem. A torn ACL. He has recomended a TPLO surgery which I am suppost to call and schedule tomorrow. I was just curious I any of you have been through this and how your rotties have recovered. I am figuring the recovery to be similar to the THR surgery. Am I correct in assuming this? Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks! Erica |

| Re: TPLO surgery?? Erica, There are quite a few threads discussing both the surgery and the recovery (including the games one can play to keep a dog busy). Use the search function up top, "TPLO recovery" "TPLO surgery." For my dog's specific recovery, "Banja recovery" Good luck!

| Re: TPLO surgery?? I am sorry to hear about Xena. Roxy our 5 year old rott - which we had to put to sleep in April - due to lymphoma, had surgery on both of her hips and both back knees. The recovery for the hips were much worse than the knees. Although, expect to go through the same recovery time with the knee as you did with the hip. Roxy did exceptionally well with all of her surgeries. She was under a year old when she was dx with hip diplaysia. It was so bad for her that she was crying many times when she got up and layed down. The vet said her hips were so bad they were literally popping out of the joint when she got up and down. Best of luck to you with the surgery! Remember to take it easy with her on the recovery - that was the hardest part for us - she was still a pup and wanted to get up and play the day she came home from the surgery. Take care. Riley - our 6 month old (& Roxy's) Mom |

| Re: TPLO surgery?? Thank you for your comment. It brings me some comfort that I am not the only one that has gone through this (both hips and knees). I am sorry you lost Roxy at such a young age. Just to let you know...Xena had her TPLO surgery about a week and a half ago and she is recovering great. The doctor is very impressed with how fast she is recovering. I've been doing my very best to keep her calm. |
