| Another Vaccine Question
I am sure this has been covered before, but I was curious... Clyde will be 1 year old day after tomorrow, and he was due to have his rabies and 4 in 1 (distemper, parvo, etc.) We took him to the vet (which went over like a lead balloon with Clyde, btw), for his shots, and I asked the vet what brand of 4 in 1 shot they used. He told me Ptziser (sic, pronounced Fizer), and he said he sees quite a few Rotties, Dobies, and mixes of the two, and they had had very good results with that brand, and they were aware of the problems that these breeds have with parvo. I know that vaccine has been discussed before, but I am concerned about the amount of protection Clyde actually received. What is the difference in the manufacturers? Is Clyde protected by the brand of vaccine used, or should I look for a different vet who specializes in Rottie- Dobie type dogs? I should also add, that while I have done everything I can to socialize Clyde, he HATES his vet. Might have something to do with the last time he was there, when he was soooo sick. My hubby said (before the shots) that I had made too big a deal of the last trip to the vet, and Clyde wouldn't act that way when HE WAS AROUND.... I had to bite my tongue!!!! Only because my hubby is 6'5" & 250#, could he control Clyde when the doctor tried to touch him... His eyes dialated, and he struck out just like a snake, no growl, no warning, nothing. He just went ballistic, and Jack had to hold him down, clamp his mouth shut, and I was sweet talking him. So much for having a good relationship with the vet... Clyde's doctor says it's okay, that he sees it all the time, because going to the vet means "bad things, man"... I asked the vet if they ever gave treats to the dogs, before and after treatment, and he said "No, I guess I never thought of that..." |

| Doctors Foster & Smith (vets) have a GOOD mag. I pass out with every puppy or dog sold. Their 800~ # is 826~7206. They in~fact are breeders of dogs also & so they would answer any question you would have about shots or anything about a Rottweiler. ------------------ |

| My vet uses Pfizer I believe. At any rate, he says that in the 7-8 years since Intervet came out with their Progard vaccine, other vaccine manufacturers have improved their products to the point they are equal to Progard as far as immunization for immune-problem-prone breeds like Rottweilers, Dobermans, Pit Bulls, etc. I have not verified this or done any research on it but have no particular reason not to believe this vet.
