| Hip Dysplasia ??? Ihave a six-month old bitch who, after a lot of exercise, occasionaly 'yelps' at night when she turns over. The most she has done this is twice in one night. The vet says it is hip-dysplasia.The books I read say it cannot be properly diagnosed until the dog is 12 months old and she has to be x-rayed.Anyone any suggestions ???? | It can only be diagnosed by x-ray, that is true. It can be diagnosed before a year of age. Nancy ------------------ von Dorow Rottweilers doggo1@apex2000.net |

| My male was diagnosed with HD at 4 months with x-rays. It was actually diagnosed earlier with just manipulation of the joints at each well puppy/vacc. appointment; x-rays were then taken when he was neutered to confirm same. |

| It can definately be diagnosed before 1 yrs old! My 9 month old just went for x-rays, I also thought that this didn't occur in puppies so young, and I was told that the condition is sooo severe in him that we are already too late for most of the options available to rotties. PLEASE don't wait to take steps to help her because it's getting worse. Although we didn't order x-rays immediatly upon noticing him having trouble,we didn't wait very long and it's already very late. Good luck and please let me know what happens! I also have a topic entitled Hip Displasia in this forum. |

| Thank you everybody for your interest in my dog's problem.Shortly after I posted my previous letter my dog developed 'third eyelids' or cherry eye.So when she had those operated on she was x-rayed and the vet confirmed that her 'hip displacia' is very mild.He wants to check it when she is fully developed. As a little 'P.S.'she has recently caught 2 squirrels at the local park, so if thats a dog with bad hips... I think she is perhaps the reincarnation of a greyhound.Once again many thanks your site was of some comfort in my hours of need. |
