Recuperation will depend on each dog's pain threshhold, among other things. Even if it doesn't hurt, some dogs will worry a wound because they find it annoying, interesting, who knows! I've usually had bitches recover quite quickly from a routine spay. Most of them don't seem to notice or care and you have to be careful not to let them overexert themselves, get into mud puddles, etc. I have had males, however, who would lick & lick & lick until the scrotal tissue was inflamed. (Something psychological here?
) Anyway, no hard and fast rule - just watch them and see how they do.
