Panosteitis or injury

5 weeks ago our 7 month old rott began to limp on the front right leg. After xrays the vet said he thought that it was "growing pains". The dog is already 90 pounds without an ounce of fat. We have since discovered that his father weighs 180 pounds at three years of age.

The improvement has been minimal over the last month. It seems to me that the problem is in the paw and not the long bones. Does anyone know of a good vet in the southeastern or central Pennsylvania area that I can take him to for a second opinion? We would be interested in any advice you can give us or share your experiences with panosteitis.

Thank you so very much.

Hello,

Well I hate to say it but I am the Pano King acyually I brought this up before if you check the achives or go to the search you should find it. I received allot of great information on Pano and my boy is getting through it although I am not to happy about it and it has made me crazy on a few occasions I'm learning to deal with it. If your vet thinks it's pano it may well be, I have a few helpful ideas on it as well.

1. DOn't panic it happens and since there's nothing you can do but wait it out and provide the pup with comfort

2. Glucomisine (I'm not sure if I spelt it right) it works really good for dogs during growing pains I also was told to give the puppy regular aspirin for the dogs where it is really bad I was told up to 3X a day.

There are allot of great websites on it like this one

If you do a search you will find plenty on the topic. I am concerned about the pups dad being so big where did you get him from? 180 is really too big for a rottweiler. You will find that this group is supportive around here and anything I can do to help I will Right now our boy is very active and he still limps from time to time but I keep him calm and healthy and watch your dogs diet carefully. Pano comes and goes and lasts anywhere from 6months - 2years as the oldest time but I have heard from many people that once the dog has stopped that they never had a problem with it again. Good luck with it but I would still have another oponion taken and ask the breeder about it and does it run in the parents family.
