Vet in Dallas

Does anyone in Dallas know a Vet who is comfortable with Rotties? Mine seems to be very uncomfortable with him...I don't mind the muzzle, and neither does Cain, but mine uses overkill on it and asks that we leave it on the whole time we're there. I don't handle that very well...don't like to see Cain uncomfortable, he's not aggressive unless they scare him with shots-IV's-checking his ears. We can handle 5 minutes just fine, but feel it's not fair to leave it on while we're WAITING...

I would be looking for another vet right away! If your dog is managing to behave himself, in spite of all this, he must be an angel. For a vet to be this scared, I'm sure he's transmitting it to the dog. If your dog has never shown any reason he should be muzzled, this is disgusting.

Maggie's breeder once refused to take one of her dogs on a national talk show because they asked that he be brought on muzzled. She said there was no way she'd muzzle this dog. He was an Am/Can CH, had his CDX and was a registered therapy dog and she refused to feed into the paranoia and sensationalism surrounding the breed. She said it was an afront to her as a breeder and to the dog as an outstanding example of the breed.

Sorry, I don't even live in the States and can't give you a recommendation, but this really infuriated me. Do you have any friends with Rotties who you could ask about their vets? How about your dog's breeder? The local Rottie rescue might have some recommendations.

Funny you should ask this. I just sent an email off to someone else about Rottie vets in the Dallas area. Here are some of the ones recommended by folks in that area:

Dr. Andrea Komkov

Dr Ed Silverman, Uptown Vet Clinic

Animal Clinic of Farmers Branch

Dr. Steinle at the Northwest Animal Hospital

Duane Maxwell at Trinity Pet Hospital, Carrollton, TX

Bob Beardon of Mercedes Place Animal Hospital in Benbrook, TX

Frankford Pet Hospital, Carrollton, TX

I have ph numbers for 2 of them, but I didn't think it would be appropriate to post them here. Just so you know, I've never used any of these vets as I do not live that close to Dallas, so I can't personally recommend one particular vet over the other. Hope you find one that you and Cain like!
