| Normal Panting? Gas? Hi Folk's this looks like the web site that could answer my question. I have a Female Rotty named Tasha, she is about 2 1/2 yrs old. Just got her from a home yesterday, She appears to fine, good natured, frisky, she's eating and drinking just like she is supposed to, but she has had gas , and is panting alot, I was thinking the panting might be normal, but I'm not sure. If somebody could let me know if the panting is normal, and how to get rid of the gas, I was greatly appreciate it. Also she was coughing earlier, but now seems to be fine. Thanks for taking the time to reply. |

| Dogs pant to cool themselves down, but they also pant when they are under stress. I would imagine your dog is panting because she is stressed if you only got her yesterday. If it doesn't go away within a day or so, I would get her checked. Gas is usually caused by diet and can be aggravated by stress. Are you feeding her the same thing that she had previously? If you are, and the gas doesn't go away, you might look into gradually changing her to another food once she has settled into her new home. Just try to live with the gas for now, you don't want to change too much all at once with a new dog. As for the coughing, if it just happened once and doesn't reoccur, I wouldn't worry about it. If it happens again, I would get it checked out by a vet. In fact, an overall health check by a vet is a very good idea for any new dog, no matter what age it is. ![]() |
