Sadie leaking I have noticed that after Sadie sits or lays in one area for awhile when she moves there is a very small wet spot and she drips a little when she first gets up. She was spayed around 3 years of age and is believed to be around 6 now.

Re: Sadie leaking Do you think it is excited pee? Usually this is the case with young puppies whose bladders have not yet developed and they get excited. Since she is not (completely) used to being in the house, she may be excited. It sounds more like a possible bladder issue though, and if she continues to "leak", I would take her to the vet. I know there are medications to help this, if that is the issue.

Re: Sadie leaking I wondered about it being from excitement but thought that was a puppy issue. I don't mind the little mess it causes, she has peed on the floor and I understand she needs to be housebroke so I don't get upset I just say no then take her outside and give her praise when she finishes. I just don't want to ignore it thinking it is from excitement if it is from a health issue.

| Re: Sadie leaking Leaking is known to be a common sideeffect to spaying. At least here in Norway, where very few bitches are spayed young. About 10% of them start leaking after the procedure, and it can occur several years after. Could of course be something else as well.

Re: Sadie leaking I have my 2-3 year old dog who was spayed a year ago start doing this. I took her to the vet and after ruling out a bladder infection, said that it may be Hormone Responsive Incontinence. Common in about 10% of spayed females. Estrogen helps to keep the bladder sphincter muscle conditioned and toned, so in some spayed females, the removal of the ovaries affects the sphincter muscle control. Oral estrogens and other medictions help. Like yourself, I haven't decided to do anything about it as I don't consider it a big problem, but I am trying to learn more, as it can get worse with age. See my thread further down titled "Homone Responsive Incontinence" for some good info from other board members.

Re: Sadie leaking W ell it seems like a lot is happening all at once here. I will get a hold of my vet and have her checked to make sure it isn't an infection. If it is just due to her spay I can live with the leaking but I will make sure it isn't something else.

Re: Sadie leaking Keeta will not leak everyday, but on and off. Seems like she has more of a tendency to leak after vigourous exercise. I'm like you though, I don't see any wet spots for a week and convince myself that it was nothing, then it starts again and I have to deal with it. Anyways, keep us updated!

| Re: Sadie leaking My deceased girl had the same problem. Her vet prescribed estrogen replacement pills, and she was better then new. Sheena did not leak all the time. It was the worst twice a year. I always wondered if it happened during what would be her heat cycle if she was not spayed.

Re: Sadie leaking I am going to recall my vet and if I still don't hear from him then I will have to call the animal hospital. I prefer my vet because I know him better and the cost will be cheaper. But I can't wait much longer I need to have Sadie checked like yesterday!! I really can't figure why the vet hasn't called, useually returns my calls the same day?

Re: Sadie leaking There is an article in the current Whole Dog Journal about this. Besides the medical treatments, others have solved the problem by removing grain from the diet. It's a good article. They cover alot of possible treatments.

Re: Sadie leaking Sadie has Spay Incontinence and I have been researching this issue but I still just can't decide what if any thing I should do. At this point she does not leak a lot and it isn't every day. I worry about side affects of medications tho I believe this isn't a med taken daily. I would really like to know what you all think. Should I start her on meds now or wait until/if it gets worse?? I just really don't want to medicate if it is not needed and yet I don't want to wait if it is best for her to be on meds.
