TEETHING & GIARDIA

Our 4 month old Rottie is teething. We had him at the vet a week before and the vet warned me that he would be losing his teeth. Since Sunday he has had no appetite, has diareha and is sleeping alot. I find him acting strange. He is continuing to drink alot of water though. What I mean by this is that he is not his playful self. Could this have anything to do with the teething process? I know human babies will not eat and run a temperature when they are teething, is this kind of the same? I have never owned a pup during the teething stage. Please advise if I should worry.

HI,

We have three Rotties that are past the teething stage. NONE had any symptoms at all from the teething. Other than the normal chewing desire.
I would be very conserned about the loose stool and loss of apetite. Could be from several things. Change in diet, sickness, stress, trauma ect. To be safe I would definately suggest you call your vet and discuss it with him or her.. to be safe..

Good Luck

Trish

Hi Beavers,

These are not normal signs when they change teeth.
When this stays you better see the vet.

Good Luck hope he will be better soon...

is your pups' shots updated?
yes, as the previus replies state, it could be any of a vairety of factors...
The teething may have caused some loss of appetite due to pain produced by teeth falling off... but the diarrhea is out of the picture of a healthy, normal teething phase. I cannot suggest a treatment without a full history and examination, so you better see your vet...

When my Rottie stopped eating or barley eating, She had parvo and I had taking her in early enough they were able to save her. Don't hold out and wait to long. My rottie was in the hospital for a week and half but the saved her. My prayers are with you and your Rottie.

Thank you to all of those who replied to my question. I am very concerned also. I will admit that we have had several days where Diesel's stool was firm, but as of Sunday we are back to the diareha. I did contact the vet today and they suggested I get a fresh stool sample and bring it in for testing. I am trying, as you can imagine it is kind of hard some times. Can anyone please help me locate more info on Parvo?
Thanks again!

Have you had him checked for worms? Worms can case runny stools and listless behavior if they are bad enough. Good Luck and please let us know what you find out.

I'd like to take this time to thank all of those concerned about Diesel. We have since been at the vet and he has been diagnosed with a very comman "Beaver Fever". If anyone of you does not know what this is, it is a virus carried in water that will cause runny and slimey stool. I can assume he caught it while out at a friends farm that gets their water from a well. Diesel is on oral medication and soft food for the next 7 days. I have seen great improvement since his visit with his Dr. Thank you once again for all the great advise and the help.
Sincerly
