I wouldnt worry too much about 1 mite. Follow your veterinarians instructions and apply the ointment. I would have her re-checked by the vet to make shure the mites are gone. The reason your vet probably asked if the pups mother had a problem is because mites are a parasite and could have passed them on to the pups. Mites being a parasite would have nothing to do with poor immune systems of Rotties.

The general opinion among vets & researchers is that all dogs have the mites but stress or other factors that compromise the immune system cause the dog to react to the mites. Then it becomes similar to an allergic reaction. Most dogs outgrow the problem and never have more than a spot or two that react. I'd agree with your vet - the problem sounds pretty minor and the ointment and maturity will probably solve it.

When I first brought my female home she developed demodectic mange. My vet said that the stress of the move is what prompted the outbreak. After successful treatment we haven't had this problem anymore. I hope the same will apply to your baby.
