Groin pull

Seems my Boone dog has badly pulled a groin muscle .. he was displaying so severely that at first, I was almost sick thinking ACL.

Other then rest (which is tough for him ) and ice (which is not that practical) any other treatment recommendations? Never dealt with a going pull before.

He is already on UbaVet and Yucca as well as a no grain diet for his arthritis and skin/allergy issues.

My poor boy. We also just found out he has pretty advanced cataracts. Apparently my quest to make this dog ageless has not succeeded. I am not happy about any of this.

Re: Groin pull

I don't know if it would be ok with Boon's skin algery issues, but there are some great topical type, muscle pain relief meds. One that I was told about is made with Emu oil, and is all natural. It might help relieve some of the pain that he is feeling.

Just a thought.

Thanks Karyn .. Boone appreciates the kind thoughts.

I know we can't make them ageless .. but I certainly have tried .. I hate this inevitable part of having dogs. The vet's comment "he is getting older now" reduced me to tears.

Post Re: Groin pull

Lorrie;

So sorry to hear that Boone is gimping.
Are they sure about a pulled muscle? Did you see him do anything to hurt himself?

My first worry with an older dog that is limping is cancer. My China started gimping off and on in the spring. I gave her a few days rest, and some anti-inflammatories...still limping.

I took her to the vet and had her x-rayed from stem to stern and blood work-up done and they diagnosed arthritis. I have gotten her to lose 5 lbs, and upped her gluc./chond./msm and so far she is fine.

There was an article a couple of months ago about a great new product in the Whole Dog Journal. It's called Dog Gone Pain DGP - Dog Gone Pain Revitalizing Supplement For Dogs
Many people that have sore, arthritic dog are very pleased with the product.

You could give it a try, I know I will .

OH .. I hear ya Gina .. limps scare the bejesus out of me too. I had Boone in about a week ago and had a Wellness panel done .. all looks fine.

Except he too was diagnoses with arthritis in the knee. I started him on UbaVet then. This injury was accute and I think the result of laminate flooring ... the dogs tear down the hall at mock one .. then bank hard right to go out. Getting some form of carpeting this weekend!!

I will check out the Dog Gone Pain .. it sounds interesting. Thanks!

We did the laminate too, and the same thing was happening. Poor dogs were trying to run on a skating rink.
Walmart has nice 5' x 9' rugs for $39.99 ..... bought 4, and have covered up most of the laminate. The dogs are more important to me than what the floor looks like.
