Upset Stomach with Diarrhea

Just got a call for DH...it seems Deja Vu has an upset "tummy". She had diarrhea when she went down for her nap and her breakfast did not stay down. So, I guess a trip to the grocery on the way home tonight is mandated. I will pick up some broth and pumpkin and hope that she is doing better tonight. Any other suggestions on what to feed a 6 mo pup is greatly appreciated. She currently eats 3 cups total in 3 meals per day. Any suggestions on quantity to feed her with tummy upset? I'm used to the boys with "ironcast stomachs" so it's been a very long while since I've dealt with this one. DH says she refused lunch/snack and she is sleeping, so I KNOW that she is definitely not feeling right. She is one food-motivated puppy and she didn't even come into the kitchen when it was being prepared...she just watched the others eat. My vet wants me to watch her for a couple of days before doing anything...we had the same symptoms about 1 months ago and it turned out to be an expensive case of gastroentiritis (better known as "gas on the tummy"). She hasn't been "into" anything that we know of...so don't think that it's an obstruction. And we just changed her food to Innova (green bag) but that hasn't seem to bother her so far. The switch was completed about 2 weeks ago. Also, the vet said we might want to feed her the Hills IB for sensitive stomachs until she gets better. Any suggestions on feedings for the next couple of days, please let me know. If she's not feeling better by late tomorrow, I'm at the vets office to check it out. (Timing is just horrible...grandbaby to be delivered via c-section early Friday AM...but Deja's health is very important so we will get through this...when it rains, it definitely pours! ) Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: Upset Stomach with Diarrhea

Some white rice and boiled white meat chicken should be good for her. Until you know for sure what the problem might be, I wouldn't give the pumpkin just yet. Give her precious little belly a chance to calm down first. You can use fat free chicken broth to boil the chicken in for flavor. Just make sure onion is either listed last or not listed at all. Chop up ,mix with rice and a little broth give about a cup at a time. You can also give her a tagamet acid reducer 200 mil in am. Ask your vet first. We give it to Lola when ever she has an upset stomach. It calms the acid down and after 20min, she is hungry and not in pain. Hope Deja Vu feels better soon. That is an awsome name for your girl.

Thanks Lola...we like it too! She was named by the rescue mom and we thought it fit her perfectly. She was truly sent to us by our girlie that went to the bridge in Feb. There are soooo many coincidences. She's very special for sure...and thanks for the guide on feedings. I fed her about an hour ago and she was hungry and very thirsty. She has held it down and no diarrhea, yet. I thought I might give her a bit more before bedtime and then wait and see. She thinks she's in heaven with the chicken, rice and broth. She's also being much more playful than earlier today, but we are keeping her calmer than usual just until she recovers. My vet thinks there's a possibility that the Innova is causing a lot of gas. I need to start researching that one to see if it's common or not.
