| Rottie Lost to Osteosarcoma My 8 year old rotti Manniko (Manny) had to be put to sleep last Monday July 5th. He went downhill quickly that weekend and by Monday night the cancer had spread to his spine, making moving difficult. He was his usual alert self, growling at the odd noise or so, but he must have been in considerable pain. He couldn't stand up, his legs kept giving way under him. It was a heartwrenching decision to make and I bawled like a baby and held him in my arms at the vets when he "died". The original time period I was told was 6 months maybe more, but it was just 1 day short of a month after diagnosis. I want to thank everyone for their support here over the past month. It helped quite a lot. Regards Diana (Eliza) |

| Eliza, I'm new to this forum, just found it a couple days ago, but wanted to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your 'Manny'. I too am soon to face the loss of my 10 and a half year 'Ursa'. She was diagnosed with a bone tumor in her left shoulder blade (scapula). Vet says likely osteosarcoma, and growing fast. (went from the size of a lemon, to bigger than my hand in 11 days. She is limping pretty bad now, but seems to be ok otherwise..still has an appetite and will chew on her bone now and then, barks ( although not as vigorously) at a neighbor who has a dog she detests, but for the most part, doesn't make unnessassary movements and sleeps alot. We are giving her Rimadyl for the pain. But I know it will not be long before she will be unable to climb the stairs to sleep at my bedside and it will be time to say farewell. Reading your posts and those of others who have faced their loss has helped me a little to come to grips with this. My question to you or any others out there is: Is there anything that we can do to ease her pain, other than the Rimadyl we give her twice a day? Natural remedy or whatever? What seemed to help Manny? Any advise will be most appreciated. And again, my sincerest condolences in the your loss of Manny. Regards, Elisha |
