inner ear infection My dog has had her 2nd inner ear infection lately which occured within 2 months from each other. How do you get something like this cleared up. I don't want this to happen again. When she has this attack she goes into what looks like a ceasure. She is about 5 yrs old now & always had problems with her ears bothering her, I always assumed this was just allergies.

Quite often it is caused by allergies - but that can be anything from food ingredients to whatever. You might look into finding a holistic vet in your area, since a conventional vet doesn't seem to have come up with a remedy. Nancy ------------------ von Dorow Rottweilers doggo1@apex2000.net

Ear infections are very common in dogs that have food allergies. Have you tried switching foods or determined what ingredient it is she's allergic to?

your dog's ear infection could have also been caused by mites, bacteria or fungus. treatment may not be as dramatic as we would like, ask for another check and a new treatment may just do the trick. clean it daily with hydrogen peroxide diluted with water and povidone-iodine solution plus the prescribed medicine for the causative agent. ------------------ Abel Manalo College of Veterinary Medicine University of the Philippines

| My Beauxgart had inner ear problems on and off 6 years of his 7 1/2 years of life. When have taken antibiotics, done cultures to grow bacteria to see what would treat it, have been through many ointments, cleansers, you name it. I know the "seziure" you are talking about. They are very scary. Beaux would fall out and flop like a fish and drool a puddle. Once he went "down" and could not walk for 2 weeks due to his equiliberum being off, that is why they don't know which way is up, any way we drove him 4 hours away to a specialist had his inner ear removed and he was fine for 2 years. He went back down a few months ago with the same symptoms, dr. did not seem to think then that the ear was the problem he recommended a CAT scan for brain stem problems. It made since at the time even though Beaux always had yucky ears. Long story short, I lost my baby to deteriation of the spinal cord before we ever got his ear troubles completely figured out. I just want to recommend when your dog goes into a seziure, try to hold him still as possible, his flopping is uncontrollable for him. He don't understand what is wrong. roll him on his side and keep pressure on him to stay in that position. It helped with mine to ease the frantic look on his face. Also the twisting and flopping is not good for his back, he could pull a disc or pinch a nerve. I am not no Dr., but speaking from experience. I sure miss my baby Beauxgart! (Bawling like a baby!)
