| should I take her to emergency or wait until thursdsay appointment? My 10-year old girl had a series of standard blood tests last week before an impending operation to remove a large fatty tumor. She has been over the past month or so very lethargic and poor appetite. The test showed that she is anemic and has high level of bilirubin...the vet said it could be ehrlichiosis or something worse...no operation now...and our next appointment to do more testing is next thursday. Today she can hardly walk and seems in pain. She has a touch or arthritis which sometimes flairs up and I gave her some aspirin. However, she seems to be in pain and I wonder if I should being her to the emergency vet now or wait to see how she is tomorrow and if she is not feeling better bring her there. Her regular vet is away til wednesday. Any feedback would be appreciated. |

| Re: should I take her to emergency or wait until thursdsay appointment? Any time my guys seem to be in pain and I can't make it go away or control it in a reasonable time frame, I contact the vet.

| Re: should I take her to emergency or wait until thursdsay appointment? It is a holiday weekend, so even if you wait to take her in tomorrow, it is still going to be an emergency visit. You might as well go today.

| Re: should I take her to emergency or wait until thursdsay appointment? I would get her to an emergency vet, and bring the results of the tests she's already had with you. I would not give aspirin without first consulting a vet, as high bilirubin is also common with hemolytic anemia (as is anemia which the name implies), which is a bleeding disorder and something like aspirin would make it much worse. |

| Re: should I take her to emergency or wait until thursdsay appointment? With the high tolorance for pain that rotties have, and you can see that she is in pain, GO NOW,to the vet. She is probably having far more pain than you realize.

| Re: should I take her to emergency or wait until thursdsay appointment? Thanks for the responses. I managed to contact my vet, described the problem, and she said that if she feels better I can wait until Thursday. This morning Taibo is feeling better, not laying down to eat, and we took a walk in the park. I know that she has some serious health issues, and we will keep our appointment to get tested on Thursday. |
