Re: Mystery Illness

I work for my vets we have 4 right now we have all of them working on my Mojo. He has also been to Orange Park and Auburn Al. I will ask them to check anything that it may be. We will start tomorrow. We have been testing him for weeks but they thought it was a problem with his hips or his knee. That was until it started in this other leg. Thanks for the imput.

Re: Mystery Illness

Well I took Mojo to the University of Florida the other day and after a full day of test we are hopefully getting closer to his mystery illness. They did a spinal tap, biopsies of his muscles. An auto imnune panel. The biopsy had to be sent to California. In the mean time he has more pills than a grandpa. Now the pred twice a day is not holding him. You can tell he is having a problem chewing. He is on Science diet pd, He lost 3 pounds in less than one week. Wish us luck. I cry everyday for my boy.

Re: Mystery Illness

Wow, the poor boy is sure going through an ordeal! What is Science Diet p/d? Canned or kibble?

If it's painful for him to eat, I'd make a mush using a blender, so he can eat something he doesn't have to chew, or even mouth much, to get down. If he can just "tongue" it down, maybe he'll be more receptive to eating. A swirl of baby food meat through the top would probably do his heart good, too.

I also wouldn't hesitate to hand feed him, if you need to.

Re: Mystery Illness

Science diet is made for dogs that are recovering from an illness. I do hand feed him. I do make his food mushy. I have gotten his weight back up the problem is the loss of muscle mass. He has lost more since he was at the University last Wednesday. You can see and feel his spine. What ever this is is getting worse. He is on Pred twice a day, muscle relaxers twice a day, pain meds, vitamins twice a day. I will keep you posted. I am doing every thing I can for him. I don't know how much more I can do for him. But I will run the gambet for him. He is my boy. Thanks for the input.
