Re: 5-Month Old Energy Level

OKay, I am very very sad. Can someone tell me what options you have if it is HP? I don't want her in all that pain and she groans everytime she gets up.

I'm really really sad, almost in tears and I don't want people to see me cry while I'm at work. I don't want my dog in pain. My son said she's lying down.

:(

Take a deep breath I know there are many different treatments for HD and a GOOD vet will outline them for you.

I thought everything would be okay. They are idiots. I'm so mad. I'm afraid to contact the breeder because he'll probably want her back and give me a new puppy and I don't want that.

I want my Zoey to get better.

I hate this. She's six months. I spoke w/her trainer and she said that her dog has it and she gives her dog the same pills. I'm going to get a 2nd opinion.

I just got back from a long cry and I still feel like I have more in me.

I hate this. I hate that I got a dog and never thought it would get to me like this. I honestly feel like she's one of my children.

I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 5-Month Old Energy Level

O.k....take a deep breath! I was in the same boat as you not too long ago...and there is HOPE.

I had a feeling it was a hip problem because a dog does not cry for nothing when getting up. The vet is wrong, she will not "grow out of it" and it sounds like your dog has Hip Displasia. I would get a 2nd opinion by an orthopedic vet. He/she will explain your options in depth.

Her breeder needs to be contacted immediately! Any good breeder would want to know! And you need to pull out your contract and see what the breeder offers in regards to HD. Please do not feel you need to give your pup back, you DO NOT! No one can take her away from you but your contract may say return of pup and replacement if Hip Displasia occurs before the age of 2. You have the option of not giving her back though, but you may get nothing from the breeder.

If she is a good candidate, and in a dog this young, surgery may be an option. She can lead a very good (and pain free) life. My dog had a Triple Pelvic Osteotomy done. If the socket is not damaged or deformed (yet), your pup may be a candidate for this type of surgery. An orothopedic vet can answer all of your questions.

Surgery however, is very costly and draining on your time, emotions, and pocketbook. You have to decide what is right for you, your family, and your pup.

If she is in the kind of pain you describe at this young age, she will not get better without some kind of intervention.

My heart goes out to you!

Looking at the xrays, the bone is out just a little. I don't know. I hate that I got a dog! This hurts too much. I cannot afford an expensive surgery. I don't know what to do, other than cry!

Re: 5-Month Old Energy Level

Dogs can live a long time with hip problems with pain control ect..it could be that your pup is having more of the problems due to the blood disorder you were talking about than the hip problem, i was told duggan has mod. to severe hip problems or he will the older he gets. that is why we have been working on his weight and excercise (he also has a ccl injury, not tore but injured) doing the cosequin (gluco/condrontion(Sp?)) and watching him very closly for ANY signs of anything getting worse. I know how you feel i cried so hard when they told me about duggan, for at least a month. I still cry sometimes about it. I would go to a different vet and see what that vet says...keep us posted! I will keep you and you pup in my thoughts!!!! He also takes rimadyl for pain when he needs it...not very often thank god...You will have alot of support from everyone on here. From the searches i have done on here alot of people have had to deal with hip problems

The breeder just called me and told me to contact a "real" vet. He said that he finds it very hard to believe that it's HD. He said that it's quite possible that the bone popped out of place and it can be fixed. I'm not too sure what he said because I this idiot in my office started saying, I can think of better things to do w/my money then spend it on a dog. I'm so sad! I have a serious headache. I will keep you all posted.

Thank you and I hope and pray that it's not that. I would love to spend that much money but I can't afford to do it w/2 children. I don't know what I'll do but I will keep you posted.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the surgery? I really cannot afford it.

Okay, I misunderstood you. I thought your dog had the surgery. How long has he been diagnosed w/this? I'm losing it.

Re: 5-Month Old Energy Level

You need to get this dog to an orthopaedic vet to get a real, true diagnosis!

Please ask your vet to refer you to one.
