Allergic Reaction!!!!!

Monday 29th May I fed Max his food in the morning, in the afternoon I made chicken salad for me and my partner, I threw chicken and cucumber out to my 3 dogs, about 10 minutes later i noticed Max's top lip went really swollen and in a matter of 2 secs it kept getting even bigger, i phoned the vets and had to take him about 20 mins away, as it was a bank holiday, my partner took him over as i can't drive, half way there he had noticed Max's top lip had got bigger again and was curling over, so he raced to the vets, as at that time he was having trouble breathing, and the vet said "OMG, I'm 50/50 in letting you take him home" she gave him a steroid injection and a tablet, once he had the injection and came home he was looking a little better then i gave him the tablet @ 9:00. His lip was back to normal the next day. That was the frightening thing i had ever experienced.

Max was brought up on chicken from an early age and i have fed to him ever since, I'm wondering if it was the cucumber, but i have fed that to him before. My mother thought it could have been a bee sting!!!!

Does anyone know how this could have happened?

Re: Allergic Reaction!!!!!

My brothers GS is allergic to bee stings his whole face swells up and his eyes close shut He very well could have been stung or bit by something, I took Chooper with me one day and while I was in the store something in my van bit him When I returned I noticed he had tons (maybe 20) little marks on his stomach they looked like stings and he would not get in the front seat all the way home, so im thinking it was something up there, no swelling though

Hope he is all well now

Re: Allergic Reaction!!!!!

I was just going to mention a bee, but I see GypsysMom beat me to it. If he's had chicken before, then that would be unlikely, don't you think? Unless it something IN the salad. Onion? (toxic, in the right quantity) Was the food thrown on the ground? It may have been next to a bee and the bee could even have bitten inside the mouth. Which is even more sensitive. Cucumber? Just doesn't have a high allergic ring to it.

Muast have been pretty scary, tho.

Re: Allergic Reaction!!!!!

ant bites and deerfly bites can do the same thing too. Darla woke me up one night with her face swollen so she looked like a Shar pei. There was a dead carpenter ant on the floor so we guessed that's what it was

Re: Allergic Reaction!!!!!

I vote bee sting as well. Nina's been bitten twice on the face. Both times, she swelled up like she had gone three rounds with Mike Tyson. Both times, she had trouble breathing and needed benedryl shots and steriods. The second time it was so horrible that the vet gave us an eppi pen for her. Scary, to say the least.
